Camp Executive Director

We are seeking a qualified candidate for the position of the Camp Executive Director to lead our Camp Linwood MacDonald YMCA, a beautiful 200+ acre camp in northwest New Jersey. Under the Direction of the President/CEO, The Executive Director is responsible for management and development of all related programs, staff, community relations, fiscal, property, facilities and equipment while ensuring safety - all conducted in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures to enable the Association to achieve its defined goals and objectives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the YMCA meets the goals of a mission driven, value-based, community-oriented organization. Camp Executive Director is required to reside at the Director’s house on site located at the camp. The YMCA’s recruitment process includes comprehensive background check including pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

Essential Functions:

1. Develop and manage overall goals and objectives of all the relevant components of the camp programs including but not limited to environmental, educational and conference services.
2. Ensure high-quality program and service delivery including activities and food services.
3. Plan for the long-term, capital development of buildings, equipment and properties. Submit annual capital improvement plans and implement approved projects.
4. Ensure the routine maintenance of buildings, equipment and properties.
5. Prepare and maintain budget for the Camp. Monitor all expenditures to stay within the budget. Supply all necessary reports to the finance/accounting department according to the established financial procedures of the Association.
6. Ensure all Grants and Contracts and renewals are processed and submitted before their due date and managed within the boundaries set by the Grants and Contracts. Maintain communication with provider agencies. Research and identify potential Grants.
7. Ensure successful staff management including recruiting and selection process, training, scheduling, payroll processing, providing leadership and supervision, performance management as relates to evaluation, coaching & counseling, and corrective action, and separation - all within the established personnel policies and procedures of the Association.
8. Develop promotional campaigns including promotional materials and marketing strategies for the Camp.
9. Serve as liaison to camping groups and related agencies throughout the state and region.
10. Ensure regulatory compliance with the state and local regulations and maintain licenses with American Camping Association.
11. Ensure data and reports are prepared for external and internal reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
12.  Maintain records and files according to the internal as well as mandated requirements.
13. Ensure all files and records are prepared and maintained on a regular basis to ensure preparedness for all inspections.

14. Ensure all Camp Operations are consistent with the Association procedures. This includes safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, registrations, purchasing, HR and Payroll procedures, accounting, and maintenance of appropriate logs and records. Provide data and reports as required for assigned programs.

15. Retain confidentiality as necessary in compliance with policies and regulations.

16. Attend staff meetings and any scheduled training sessions as required.

17. Maintain a safe work environment, free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions and ensure cleanliness of facility.

18. Provide excellent customer service and care for all including but not limited to internal and external customers /members/ residents/ visitors/ clients/ patrons/ vendors/ suppliers/ members of public/volunteers/staff.

19. Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

20. Perform such other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.

21. Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.

22. Cooperate, work effectively and congenially with all YMCA staff members, volunteers, and members of the Association.

23. Adhere to Abuse Risk Management policies:

· Adhere to policies related to boundaries with program participants.

· Attend required abuse risk management training.

· Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising program participants.

· Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

· Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Environmental Education, or a related field.

2. Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience related to residential camping and conference services and outdoor education as well as youth programming.

3. Minimum 5 years of experience in staff management.

4. Experience in J-1 visa Employment for the camp summer seasonal International staffing.

5. Knowledge and experience with the American Camp Association.

6. Knowledge and experience writing and securing grants/contracts with local, county, state, and federal agencies.

7. Knowledge and experience of budgeting and cost control.

8. Strong administrative and record maintenance skills.

9. Strong human relations and interpersonal skills.

10. Strong conflict resolution skills and abilities.

11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including negotiation and presentation skills.

12. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

13. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft (Word, Excel, Power-point), data entry, utilizing emails and internet.

14. Excellent time management and strong organizational skills.

15. Must have strong attention to details.

16. Ability to analyze complex information and to define and solve problems.

17. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.

18. Ability to demonstrate passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA.

19. Ability to work closely with other employees and team members to ensure a positive and constructive environment within the program or department and throughout the agency.

20. Flexibility in work schedule when needed; may require evening and weekend work.

21. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

22. Certification in First Aid and CPR or obtain within three months of employment is required.
