Permit Specialist

Under the direction of the Planning Director/Building Official/Director of Public Works, or an assigned supervisor, assists citizens, developers, and business people with issues related to the land use permit/public works encroachment process, including but not limited to; zoning codes, county standard drawings and specifications, permit application completion, and other requirements. Assists staff in issuing or processing a wide variety of permits for the Planning/Building/Public Works Department. Provides information to the public, regarding the County's permit requirements and the placement of public improvements; maintains a variety of records and logs in the department's permit tracking system and assist in improving and streamlining the permit process. Any combination equivalent to: Two (2) years of college-level course work in business, construction or related field and two (2) years increasingly responsible governmental building and planning code enforcement operations and activities experience. Incumbents are required to obtain a Notary Public Certification within the first year in this classification. Valid California driver's license; which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment. A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
