As a Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator , you'll provide clinical assessments and coordinate admissions while ensuring every patient receives compassionate, timely, and appropriate behavioral healthcare.

Your responsibilities will include:

???? Responding to referrals from hospitals, providers, community agencies, emergency departments, and individuals seeking behavioral health services

???? Conducting comprehensive behavioral health assessments, including medical, psychosocial, psychiatric, and risk evaluations

???? Determining appropriate levels of care in collaboration with psychiatrists, physicians, and the interdisciplinary treatment team

???? Coordinating voluntary and involuntary psychiatric admissions while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations

???? Communicating with referral sources, families, providers, and community partners throughout the admission process

???? Obtaining insurance authorizations and verifying benefits when appropriate

???? Providing assessment services at Gateway Regional Medical Center and contracted community facilities as assigned

????️ Maintaining accurate, timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR)

❤️ Delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while supporting individuals during times of crisis

✔ Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, or a related behavioral health field OR current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license with previous behavioral health experience

✔ Current Illinois professional licensure, when applicable

✔ Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) required

✔ CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) certification required within one month of hire

✔ Previous experience in acute inpatient behavioral health or psychiatric crisis assessment preferred

✔ Knowledge of community behavioral health resources and referral processes

✔ Strong understanding of the emotional, psychological, and developmental needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations

✔ Excellent communication, crisis intervention, and clinical decision-making skills

✔ Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional in high-pressure situations
