Director of Nursing (DON) - Skilled Nursing Facility

Location: Madison, WI

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Salary: $100,000-$120,000 per year, based on experience

On-Call: Shared/rotating on-call responsibility

Relocation Assistance: Case to Case basis

We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead clinical operations for a 33-bed Skilled Nursing Facility in Madison, WI.

The facility typically operates at approximately 25-26 skilled nursing residents and has an RN Manager overseeing the Assisted Living and Memory Care areas. This position will primarily focus on the skilled nursing unit while working collaboratively with the broader leadership team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced long-term care nurse leader who understands regulatory requirements and enjoys working in a smaller, supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the quality and delivery of nursing care for skilled nursing residents

• Lead, supervise, and support nursing staff

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

• Monitor clinical standards, resident care, and nursing practices

• Develop and provide staff training and education

• Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and staff development

• Coordinate resident admissions and collaborate with Assisted Living and Memory Care leadership

• Maintain readiness for state and regulatory surveys

• Ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid requirements

• Address clinical, staffing, and operational concerns

• Promote resident safety and quality of care

• Collaborate with physicians, residents, families, and other members of the leadership team

Schedule

• Monday-Friday, typically 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

• Shared/rotating on-call responsibilities

• Primarily a leadership and clinical oversight position

Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN license

• 3-5 years of Director of Nursing experience preferred

• Strong Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) / Long-Term Care experience

• Strong understanding of federal and Wisconsin long-term care regulations

• Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid requirements

• Experience with state surveys and regulatory compliance

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop nursing staff

Experienced ADON candidates may also be considered if they have strong long-term care leadership experience and a solid understanding of regulatory requirements.
