About The College Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personnel records Knowledge of basic bookkeeping/accounting principles and practices, State and Federal tax laws as it relates to payroll. Ability to analyze discrepancies and interpret payroll data. Ability to perform detailed work with numerical data. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines and manage competing priorities. Ability to grasp and utilize a highly technical and automated payroll system. Strong problem solving skills. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to work with people and communicate effectively with others in giving and obtaining information. Ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven work High school diploma required supplemented by basic bookkeeping/accounting courses and computer classes. An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute. Additional Considerations Payroll experience in a higher education setting. Payroll experience in a state employment setting. Experience with ERP/payroll systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar) Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel Some travel may be required.
