WIC Intake Specialist

About the Position As a WIC Intake Specialist, you will be the first line of support to clients seeking Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services. You will become an expert in determining WIC program eligibility, conducting anthropometric and biochemical screenings, and educating clients on how to use their nutrition benefits. Responsibilities Assess WIC program eligibility based on federal regulations and guidelines, including screening and documentation of family income, participant identification, and caregiver information. Perform administrative duties such as answering phones, monitoring clinic emails, scheduling appointments, and conducting client check‑ins. Conduct hemoglobin screening tests using invasive and non‑invasive methods and perform anthropometric measurements (height, length, weight) on women, infants, and children. Provide client‑centered information on nutrition benefits, vendors, and Farmers’ Market locations, and instructions on redeeming benefits. Inform clients of their rights and obligations for program participation, document information in the Arizona WIC Health and Nutrition Delivery System (HANDS) computer system, and gather caregiver written consent. Participate in annual and ongoing program continuing education training activities based on County, State, and Federal regulations. Qualifications Bilingual skills in Spanish/English at an advanced proficiency level in reading, writing, and speaking. At least two years of experience providing public services and interacting with the public. High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of post‑secondary education and/or job‑related experience. Experience assessing client eligibility for public assistance programs. Experience with the WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program. Work Conditions Indoor office setting requiring accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to handle interruptions. May be assigned to work at various WIC sites. Physical capability to exert 20–25 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Participation in emergency response training as scheduled and availability to respond to public health emergencies. Within one month of hire, provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for MMR, Tdap, Varicella, influenza, and (when required) hepatitis B and/or tuberculosis testing.
