Executive Director (Part-Time) - Job Description Location: Austin, Texas (Hybrid) Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week Compensation: $1,750 - $2,083 per month, depending on experience Reports to: Board of Directors Type: 1099 Contractor Schedule: Flexible, with some evening and weekend attendance required for concerts, events, board meetings, and occasional rehearsals About SoCo Women's Chorus Founded in 2012, SoCo Women's Chorus ("SoCo") is an auditioned community treble chorus based in Austin. Since our founding, we've been a welcoming and safe space for women and LGBTQ+ singers, bringing nearly 100 voices together in performances that celebrate artistic excellence, inclusion, and community connection. Over the past several years, under the leadership of our Artistic Director Lisa Holt, SoCo has grown remarkably—more than doubling in size, significantly expanding its earned and contributed revenue, and earning transformative support through the City of Austin arts funding. As the chorus continues to grow, we are creating our first-ever Executive Director position to help build the organizational foundation that will carry us into our next chapter. The Executive Director will partner closely with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors to strengthen operations, support our volunteers and committees, deepen community engagement, and position SoCo for long-term sustainability and success. Why This Role Matters This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys building organizations. The Executive Director will play a key role in helping SoCo Women's Chorus transition from a volunteer-operated organization to one supported by professional administrative leadership. Because SoCo is growing quickly, this role blends hands-on operations with organizational building—running the day-to-day while shaping how it gets done. Working alongside an engaged Board of Directors and a GRAMMY nominated Artistic Director, the Executive Director will help establish systems, strengthen operations, and create the foundation for continued artistic and organizational growth. As SoCo Women's Chorus continues to grow its audience, programs, and financial capacity, there is opportunity for compensation to grow alongside the organization, based on organizational needs, performance, and financial sustainability. Key Responsibilities ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP Serve as the organization's primary administrative leader, partnering with the Board and Artistic Director to advance the mission of SoCo Women's Chorus. Develop organizational systems and processes that will help improve efficiency and sustainability. Ensure SoCo's critical functions are carried out with consistency and quality, building the clarity and structure needed for durable organizational practice as volunteer and board roles change over time. Help SoCo continue its ongoing evolution from a working board toward a governing board—architecting the systems, roles, and structure that support that shift as it unfolds. Support the Board's annual and strategic planning, and take the lead on executing and tracking progress on the organization's operational goals. Supervise select contractors and any future administrative staff, and partner with the Board and Artistic Director to plan for the staffing that continued growth may require. Provide regular reports and recommendations to the Board regarding organizational progress, priorities, and operational needs. CHORUS & PROGRAM OPERATIONS Lead the operational planning, logistics, and coordination that bring SoCo's mission to life through our programs, concerts, and community performances, in close partnership with the Artistic Director's creative leadership. Oversee SoCo's concert and event production, ensuring performances are polished and professional, and build stronger systems over time—strengthening the Event Production committee and Event Production Manager contractor role to support SoCo's growing slate of performances. Oversee the Chorus Officers (a volunteer Chorus Management leadership team) who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the chorus, including member communications, registration, logistics, and everything that keeps singers informed, organized, and ready to perform. Lead and strengthen SoCo's dedicated community of volunteers and committees—ensuring roles are clear, people are well-supported, and everyone has the tools they need to succeed. FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT Partner with the Board to shape SoCo's fundraising strategy and define clear roles across the Board, Executive Director, and volunteers. Coordinate and support the volunteer teams who lead SoCo's signature fundraising initiatives, such as Amplify Austin and the annual silent auction. Coordinate with SoCo's grants administrator on grant strategy, applications, and reporting. Help identify new funding opportunities that support the organization's long-term sustainability. MARKETING & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Own SoCo's marketing strategy and annual communications calendar—strengthening how SoCo is perceived, promoting our concerts and programs, and supporting fundraising and community engagement. Ensure marketing gets done reliably and on-brand across all channels—such as our website, email, social media, and concert playbills—building the systems and coordinating the mix of volunteers, contractors, and direct work that keep it consistent even as volunteers change. Grow audience, ticket sales, and playbill ad revenue to strengthen earned income, developing SoCo's reach and building on our audience growth of recent years. Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for SoCo in the Austin community, supported by the members, Board, and volunteers who already carry much of this outreach. ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE Collaborate with the Treasurer (who leads SoCo's finances with external bookkeeping support) and Board on budgeting and financial oversight. Monitor expenditures across programs and operations to keep spending on budget, working with the Treasurer to anticipate and address variances as they arise. Bring clear ownership and reliable systems to SoCo's back-office and technology systems—data, records, contracts, etc—building consistent processes where responsibilities have shifted between volunteers and board members over time. Track and report on SoCo's impact and outcomes to guide program and organizational decisions, strengthen fundraising, and support continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, required filings, insurance, and grant reporting obligations. Qualifications WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO… Believes in the power of community arts and connects with SoCo's mission. Is caring, emotionally intelligent, and a supportive team player. Someone who builds trust, navigates change and challenging conversations with professionalism, and supports the people around them. Is a strategic and systems-thinker who notices what isn't yet owned and helps build the structure to handle it. Is detail oriented and dependable—meets deadlines and keeps details from slipping through the cracks. Is a self-starter who takes initiative to move work forward. Able to balance big-picture strategy with hands-on execution—who is comfortable enhancing an organization while helping run it. Communicates clearly in writing and in person. Is comfortable with budgets and financial oversight, and can read and understand budgets and financial information with confidence. Enjoys working with and supporting volunteers, and leads and fosters an environment that encourages people to show up to support SoCo’s overall mission. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred. Preferred Experience Nonprofit administration or operations Arts management Systems- or process-building in a growing organization Fundraising and development Volunteer and committee coordination Marketing and communications Grant coordination and reporting Budgeting and financial management Familiarity with tools such as QuickBooks, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, Canva, Givebutter, and Squarespace The Opportunity This position offers the opportunity to help shape the future of one of Central Texas' fastest-growing community choruses. As the organization continues to expand its artistic impact and community presence, the Executive Director will help build the administrative foundation needed to support and enhance future growth. Because this is SoCo's first Executive Director, this role will evolve over time. The Executive Director will work with the Board and Artistic Director to set priorities, refine responsibilities, and build the practices that support SoCo's continued growth. #J-18808-Ljbffr
