CarMax is seeking a Senior Analyst to support the Payroll department located at the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, Virginia. This role is responsible for performing key system configurations and facilitating a variety of Payroll operations functions including operational audits, SOX control governance, and report development for usage across the enterprise. The position collaborates with cross-functional teams across Accounting, Technology, and Operations to ensure payroll systems and processes meet the needs of the business. Successful candidates will combine strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving capabilities with payroll expertise to transform the organization through innovation and data-driven decision making.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Support the design, configuration, and administration for Payroll systems.
• Facilitate payroll processing through the completion of payroll audits and defensive audits to ensure data accuracy, identify potential issues, and mitigate payroll risks prior to processing.
• Leverage technical ability to drive configuration architecture and design decisions for applications and systems used by the Payroll department.
• Oversee and facilitate compliance with key and non-key Payroll SOX controls. Perform completeness checks and validation activities to ensure payroll processes and controls comply with SOX requirements and established company standards.
• Create and update documentation such as best practices, technical specifications, implementation guides, architecture diagrams and design documents.
• Develop comprehensive configuration and testing strategies.
• Serve as a Payroll point of contact for system upgrades and implementations.
• Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot workflows and datasets in Alteryx for analysis, forecasting, and report delivery.
• Provide technical insight and influence others with recommendations when faced with decisions to ensure system configuration and training supports compliance, policy changes and the needs of the business. Periodically present recommendations to Sr. Leadership.
• Perform complex analysis, design, development and unit testing of various software and applications.

• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, automate manual processes, optimize data delivery process, and re-design infrastructure for greater scalability.

• Act as a liaison with various business areas by discussing their concerns, performing root cause analysis, providing recommendations, and implementing solutions.

• Lead, mentor, develop and train other Analysts in the Payroll department.
• Use business and technical knowledge to make recommendations to improve Payroll experiences and processes; influence management and champion change.
• Create project plans and lead resources to execute the plan when serving as the tactical project owner or strategic project track owner.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Hands-on skills and work experience in Workday and/or Dimensions required.
• Proficiency in performing system configurations and developing and executing test plans for new system releases preferred.
• Experience in Alteryx Designer, Alteryx Server, and the tools with Alteryx such as Parsing, Transforms and Predictive preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights required.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously to deliver within tight deadlines and drive to achieve team goals independently required.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical details to a non-technical audience and good written skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation required.
• Ability to consider long- and short-term impact of decisions required.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions required.

• Motivate and lead effectively and drive for results in challenging conditions required.
• Build and keep strong relationships throughout the organization and collaborate with other departments and teams required.
• Train, develop and mentor other associates, including providing guidance on elevated support issues required.

• Understanding of accounting principles and SOX controls preferred.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Technology or Business (i.e., Accounting, Finance, Economics) or equivalent practical experience required
• 3+ years of experience in Payroll, Technology, Accounting Systems, or similar function required
• 2+ years of related experience with Workday and/or Dimensions applications required
• 3+ years of relevant experience in implementation, administration, design, testing, deployment and troubleshooting enterprise-level systems preferred
• Advanced Microsoft Excel preferred
• Advanced knowledge of SQL preferred

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.
