Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Position Summary

Vascular and Vein Institute of the South is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Staff Accountant/Bookkeeper to support the accounting needs of a multi-entity healthcare organization.

This is a hands-on position responsible for paying bills, recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, maintaining supporting documentation, and assisting with month-end close. The ideal candidate can manage recurring responsibilities independently, think critically, investigate discrepancies, and proactively communicate when information is missing or something does not appear correct.

Key Responsibilities

• Enter, code, and process vendor bills for multiple entities
\n
• Prepare payments in accordance with established approval procedures
\n
• Record bank, credit card, loan, and other financial transactions in QuickBooks Online
\n
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and other balance sheet accounts
\n
• Ensure transactions are recorded in the correct entity, account, location, and reporting period
\n
• Prepare routine journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense entries
\n
• Assist with monthly and year-end closing procedures
\n
• Maintain accurate vendor information and organized supporting documentation
\n
• Review vendor statements and resolve missing invoices, duplicate charges, credits, and other discrepancies
\n
• Track recurring payments, leases, loans, fixed assets, and other financial obligations
\n
• Assist with audit, tax, and financial information requests
\n
• Maintain written procedures for assigned responsibilities
\n
• Identify and communicate missing information, unusual activity, and potential problems before deadlines are affected
\n
• Use approved AI tools appropriately to improve efficiency, research routine questions, and document accounting procedures
\n
• Protect confidential financial, employee, and patient-related information
\n

Qualifications

\n
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
\n
• At least two years of accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experience
\n
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online required
\n
• Experience with bill payment, transaction recording, and account reconciliations
\n
• Working knowledge of debits, credits, and basic accounting principles
\n
• Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
\n
• Ability to investigate discrepancies rather than simply clear or reclassify them
\n
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
\n
• Ability to manage responsibilities for multiple entities and meet recurring deadlines
\n
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
\n
• Ability and willingness to use technology and approved AI tools effectively
\n
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
\n
• Ability to work independently and follow established accounting and approval procedures
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Experience in a multi-entity environment
\n
• Healthcare or real estate accounting experience
\n
• Experience preparing journal entries and month-end close workpapers
\n
• Experience with electronic bill-payment platforms
\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
