Facilities Worker II - Athletic Field Maintenance

This role performs progressively responsible facility maintenance duties, including minor repairs of building systems, cleaning restrooms, trash pick‑up, and other maintenance activities, or handles grounds maintenance duties. It requires specialized knowledge in tree trimming, irrigation repair, carpentry, and athletic field maintenance, and normally functions as a crew leader. Essential Job Functions Monitors, prints out, and closes work orders; tracks work in progress. Plans and assigns duties and work activities. Supervises and participates in planting, mowing, watering, cleaning, and trimming municipal parks and grounds; operates equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks. Climbs trees using ropes, hooks, or a hoist mounted on a truck; performs necessary trimming and pruning to eliminate hazards and preserve the beauty of the trees on municipal streets and property; falls dead or dangerous trees and cuts dead limbs, removes overhanging or damaged limbs. Performs maintenance of municipal facilities and property, including landscaping work using hand and power tools. Performs landscaping duties such as mowing, edging, weeding, and blowing. May be required to respond to emergency calls. Performs minor equipment repair and maintenance. Additional Responsibilities Operates specialized trucks, small roller, grader, cement saw, tractor, and various mowing equipment. Supervises and participates in performing custodial tasks on municipal buildings and other municipal property. Assigns and issues tools, maintains shop area and equipment. Performs minor repairs on equipment and municipal buildings, including lubrication of equipment. Performs semi‑skilled tasks requiring hand tools and manual work in conjunction with job assignments. Assists with City street maintenance tasks such as erecting signs, barricades, and clearing debris. Inspects public trees to diagnose disease, ensures healthy tree growth, removes tree stumps. Performs related work as required. Requirements High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Minimum of three (3) years of related experience using equipment powered by a motor and other hand tools. Depending on the department and area of specialization: CDL Class B with airbrakes may be required. CDL Class A or passenger endorsements may be required. Public Ornamental and Turf Pest Control license may be required. Union Information This job classification is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769. Work Environment & Physical Demands The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects.
