Current vacancies exist only in Anne Arundel and St. Mary’s Counties. Police Officer II is the full performance level of law enforcement work and performs the full range of duties with complete independence. Employees are subject to call‑in duty during emergencies and staffing shortages and will work a rotating shift. Employees must work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, carry firearms, and demonstrate periodic proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms. Responsibilities Enforcing laws, rules, and regulations governing the safety and protection of personnel and State property. Perform safety, patrol, and security duties in a motor vehicle or on foot. Respond to disturbances and emergencies. Issue warnings or summons and make arrests. Investigate accidents and criminal acts. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation. Six (6) months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer. Completion of all training components required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC). Proof of U.S. equivalency for foreign education if applicable. Special Requirements U.S. Citizenship. At least 21 years of age. Satisfactory background investigation, including a criminal history check. Oral interview. Physical examination. Possession of a valid driver's license in Maryland. Compliance with selection standards established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Available for 24‑hour call‑in; must provide a reachable telephone number. May be required to bear firearms and demonstrate proficiency as required by MPCTC. Subject to substance abuse testing per Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11. May need to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland (Sections 3‑207, 3‑209). Benefits MDOT offers a generous and competitive benefits package.
