Position Description

The Department of Medicine seeks a Staff Associate II to support the research programs of Dr. Max O’Donnell and Dr. Matthew Cummings, serving as an integral member of their investigative team. The role focuses on advancing projects that examine the clinical and molecular epidemiology of sepsis and related critical illnesses, as well as research aimed at improving treatment strategies for drug‑resistant tuberculosis. The Staff Associate II will contribute to data management, analysis, coordination, and overall project execution to help drive high‑impact scientific discovery within these critical areas of global health.

Responsibilities: 

• Statistical Recommendations & Research Design — Utilize specialized knowledge of scientific methods of analysis to recommend appropriate statistical designs to the PIs and research team. This includes exercising sound judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information to suggest improvements to existing analytic code, study design protocols, and proposed analytic methods.
• Data Science Implementation — Maintain and optimize data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocols. This requires a broad understanding of research techniques, software programs, and programming instruments used in the project.
• Independent Statistical Analysis — Carry out complex statistical queries, analyses, and evaluations with limited PI supervision. The role requires solving problems in moderately complex situations by analyzing possible solutions based on education, experience, and precedent.
• Quality Control & Data Integrity — Perform rigorous quality control assessments of ongoing studies, utilizing analytical skills to identify and resolve moderately complex data discrepancies based on established guidelines and protocols.
• Technical Adaptation — Work within analytic guidelines to carry out assigned duties in the adaptation of relevant technology, such as new statistical packages or data visualization tools, to meet the specific needs of the project.
• Data Communication & Visualization — Translate complex statistical information into general terms to help the team understand the impact of the data. Deliver high‑level summary reports, tables, and figures to the PI and research team.
• Scholarly Reporting — Assist the PI in the preparation of manuscripts and funding proposals by drafting technical methods and statistical analysis sections.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology or biostatistics.
• Prior experience in the analysis of biomedical datasets.
• Excellent English communication skills .

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree in epidemiology or biostatistics.
• Proficiency in R and SAS programming languages.

Salary Range : $75,000 - $75,000
