Labor & Employment Attorney | Long Island, NY | 5-15+ Years
AJ Chambers are delighted to be working with a well established Long Island law firm that is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney to join its team on a full-time, onsite basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Labor & Employment lawyer with strong management side, employment defense and traditional labor experience. The successful attorney will have significant client contact and will handle a broad range of employment, labor, litigation and advisory matters.
The attorney will advise employers and management on a wide range of Labor & Employment matters, including:
- Employment litigation and employment law defense
- Discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment claims
- Wage & hour disputes, unpaid wages and overtime claims
- Management side labor relations
- Labor law and union related matters
- Collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and CBA negotiations
- Prevailing wage matters
- Withdrawal liability and ERISA related labor matters
- Employment related disputes and claims
- General corporate and commercial matters
- Legal advice and counseling for employers and management
The role will involve substantial hands on legal work, including:
- Representing clients in state and federal court
- Appearing before government agencies and administrative bodies
- Handling arbitrations, hearings, trials and appeals
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda
- Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, agreements and other legal documents
- Advising clients on employment and labor law compliance
- Developing legal strategies with clients
- Managing matters from inception through resolution
- Maintaining direct relationships with clients and providing practical legal advice
Must Haves
- 5-15+ years of legal experience
- Strong Labor & Employment law experience
- Management-side / employer-side experience
- Experience defending employment claims and disputes
- Experience with discrimination, harassment and/or wage & hour matters
- Strong litigation and advocacy experience
- Experience with court appearances, hearings, arbitrations, trials or appeals
- Excellent legal research, writing and communication skills
- Ability to work full-time, on-site in Long Island, NY
Nice to Have
- Collective bargaining / CBA negotiation experience
- Traditional labor law experience
- Union-side or management-side labor relations experience
- Prevailing wage experience
- Withdrawal liability experience
- ERISA experience
- General corporate or commercial transactional experience
- Portable business or client relationships
Compensation & Benefits
- $175k - $250k
- Originations are not required
- Existing book of business will be considered
- Full client contact and direct responsibility for matters
