MRI Technologist

Job Summary The Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health seeks a dedicated MRI Technologist to support both clinical and research imaging operations. The candidate will perform daily MRI and PET/MRI examinations, manage imaging data, provide technical training, prepare billing, support accreditation, and collaborate with research teams. Key Responsibilities Respond to instrumentation queries from staff, researchers, clients, and students. Prepare and process daily billing invoices for research and clinical MRI exams. Develop, test, and modify scientific equipment to support research and clinical initiatives. Assist in grant proposal preparation and documentation. Plan and perform preventative and reactive maintenance on equipment. Perform standard of care MRI and PET/MRI examinations. Investigate new research processes and technology solutions in collaboration with research staff. Provide technical expertise for installation and use of equipment, exercising discretion and independent judgment. Required Qualifications Completed an accredited medical program in Radiology Technology. Experience with MRI and PET/MRI scanner operation. Valid state certification or license to operate MRI equipment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with PET/MRI imaging. Familiarity with research protocols and data management. Education Bachelor’s degree preferred; candidates with a relevant science specialization or who have completed an accredited medical program in Radiology Technology will also be considered. Compensation & Benefits Starting salary: $68,000 for Instrumentation Technologist I and $79,000 for Instrumentation Technologist II, based on experience and qualifications. Eligible for a one‑time hiring bonus of $5,000. Benefits include generous vacation, holidays, sick leave, health and dental insurance, retirement plan, and other campus benefits. Employment Status Regular, full‑time position with eight‑hour shifts Monday through Friday (typically 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.). No on‑call or holiday shifts. The role is designated as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations and requires initial and biennial caregiver checks.
