Agreement Writer/Coordinator

Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Agreement Writer with 3-5+ years of experience to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role you will sit in NCDOT in either the Raleigh or Charlotte, NC offices. In this role, you will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and revising a wide variety of legally binding agreements to support business operations. You will ensure all documents are clear, precise, compliant with applicable laws, and aligned with company policies and risk tolerances. This position plays a critical role in facilitating smooth transactions, minimizing legal risks, and enabling timely deal closures. Responsibilities Draft, redline, and finalize various types of agreements, including but not limited to master service agreements (MSAs), statements of work (SOWs), non‑disclosure agreements (NDAs), vendor/supplier contracts, partnership agreements, employment‑related agreements, and amendments. Review and edit contracts received from external parties, identifying risks, ambiguities, or non‑standard terms, and propose revisions or alternatives. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (e.g., sales, procurement, finance, operations, and legal teams) to understand business needs and translate them into clear contractual language. Conduct legal and compliance research on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure agreements are up‑to‑date and enforceable. Maintain and update standard contract templates, playbooks, and clause libraries to improve efficiency and consistency. Track contract versions using document management tools, manage redlining processes, and ensure timely approvals and executions. Identify potential issues or risks in contract language and elevate complex matters to attorneys or senior management as needed. Support contract lifecycle management, including post‑execution tracking, renewals, and compliance monitoring where applicable. Contribute to process improvements in contract drafting workflows and documentation standards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Business Administration, Communications, Paralegal Studies, Law, or a related field (Paralegal certificate or JD a plus but not required). 3-5+ years of experience in contract drafting, review, or administration (experience in a corporate legal department, law firm, or similar environment strongly preferred). Exceptional writing and editing skills with proven ability to produce clear, concise, precise, and unambiguous legal documents. Strong understanding of contract law fundamentals, key clauses (e.g., indemnification, limitation of liability, termination, IP rights, confidentiality), and common commercial terms. Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills to spot risks, inconsistencies, or loopholes. Proficiency with Microsoft Word (advanced features including track changes, styles, and templates), contract management platforms (e.g., DocuSign, Ironclad, Conga, or similar), and Adobe Acrobat for redlining/PDF handling. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to explain complex terms to non‑legal audiences and collaborate across teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a specific industry (e.g., technology/SaaS, professional services, manufacturing, or government contracting). Familiarity with U.S. commercial laws, data privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA), or international contract considerations. Certification in contract management (e.g., CCCM, CFCM) or paralegal training. Basic negotiation experience or exposure to contract negotiations. Hand‑eye coordination is necessary to operate a computer, keyboard and mouse. Use of a telephone headset will allow for virtual communication with team members through Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams.
