Position Summary nLIGHT is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own hardware design and development efforts of high-power laser diode modules from concept through production. Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to and lead mechanical design efforts for the development of new laser diode products and tooling to support manufacturing and testingGenerate innovative hardware architectures to meet performance, environmental, reliability and cost requirementsApply DFSS principals throughout development process to create manufacturable, cost-optimized solutions that meet design goalsPerform engineering analysis including thermal, fluid and mechanical stress modeling to guide designs of high precision opto-mechanical assembliesValidate manufacturability of new designs by identifying critical manufacturing tolerances and viable process plansParticipate in the procurement process and collaborate with suppliers to ensure optimal manufacturability and costThoroughly document development efforts and present concise reporting of progress and outcomes to all levels within nLIGHTRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related fieldMinimum of 7+ years of relevant industry experienceSuccessful track record of high-precision product and tooling developmentHands-on experience measuring, assembling and inspecting prototype products and tooling to validate designsFamiliarity with manufacturing methods for low to high volume applicationsProficiency in SolidWorks and engineering drawing practices, including tolerance analysis and GD&T per ANSI Y14.5Experience performing engineering analysis to guide design decisionsStrong written and verbal communication skillsHighly organized and detail-orientedPreferred ExperienceBackground in designing high heat load, precision opto-mechanical assembliesExperienced with New Product Introduction (NPI) and product qualification practicesEnvironmental and mechanical qualification testing for military or aerospace applicationsProficiency with Ansys or COMSOL analysis toolsnLIGHT is proud to offer comprehensive COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Starting pay depends on qualifications:Senior Mechanical Engineer: $103,000 - $125,000 annuallyOther Compensation and BenefitsTarget Cash Bonus of 6% of earned wagesEligible for Restricted Stock Unit grants4 weeks of Paid Time Off per year10 paid HolidaysEligible for health benefits on the 1st day of the month after your start dateMedical, Dental and Vision Benefits, including prescription and orthodontia with employee-paid premiums as low as $40.00 per pay periodFlexible Spending and Health Savings AccountsEmployee Stock Purchase Plan401(k) with company match and immediate vestingCompany paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, and Life & AD&D InsuranceEmployee Assistance ProgramAflac Supplemental InsurancePaid Bereavement Leave and Jury DutyTuition Assistance ProgramPet InsuranceEqual Opportunity Employer.
