Responsibilities DESCRIPTION: The Security Officer I is accountable for crime prevention andmitigation through vehicle, on foot, surveillance cameras, andvarious patrol methods. Provides traffic education and enforcementto the College community to prevent accidents and congestion.Provides a safe environment and protection of Collegepersonnel/property using industry-standard crime preventiontechniques to minimize or reduce campus crimes. Investigates anddocuments security-related incidents that occur on campus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responds to emergencies of a medical, criminal, and/ormechanical nature. Investigates incidents that occur, interviews participants andwitnesses, completes incident reports, and document theseinstances. Patrols College properties to ensure a safe environment forcollege students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Utilizes patrol techniques to prevent/deter crime, including butnot limited to, walking, camera monitoring, and driving. Provides traffic education enforcement, and traffic managementto the College community to prevent accidents and congestion viacourtesy warnings and citations. Opens and locks down buildings at the close of classes andoperations. Records information on persons entering buildings after businesshours and identifies persons on College property when the collegeis closed. Provides customer service to College personnel, students, andvisitors in a courteous and professional manner. Performs other duties that may be required or assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of anacceptable equivalency diploma. Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain aFlorida driver’s license within 30 days of employment, withacceptable driving record. Certified in CPR/First Aid. If not currently certified, mustbecome certified within six months of employment. Security or related training certificate that meets orexceeds security requirements under Florida Statute 493 Class DLicense required. Certification must be kept current and active DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Experience as a security officer/guard or in a position withsimilar duties. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Due to the need for emergency adjustments of work schedules orfor campus emergencies, the following are necessary for thisposition: a. In-residence telephone service or cell phone b. Dependable transportation KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of security operations and procedures. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communicationskills, including the ability to understand and follow verbal andwritten instructions. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, as well ascritical thinking ability and ability to make quick decisions inemergency situations. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. Ability to enforce regulations consistently. Ability to describe people and objects in accurate detail. Ability to operate a computer and its software, compose conciseand comprehensive reports in Microsoft Word or other incidentreporting software and maintain accurate records. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor andinteract effectively with students, faculty, staff, andvisitors. Committed to working in a multicultural environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS Works primarily outdoors and is exposed to sun and other weatherconditions. Must be able to walk or remain stationary for long periods andregularly climb stairs. Must be able to run when necessary and maneuver in smallspaces. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Acceptable eyesight with/without corrective aid and ability todistinguish colors. Various work locations and hours including overnights, evenings,weekends, and call-backs for emergency situations. While on duty, be dressed appropriately for assignedduties. Required to drive College vehicles.
