Surgical Technologist

Guthrie Broome Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Center is a new state of the art outpatient surgery center seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join our great team of professionals. Position Title Surgical Technologist Classification Non-Exempt Department Operating Room Reports To OR Manager/Director of Nursing/Clinical Director Benefits Health Insurance Vision Insurance Paid Holidays PTO Position Summary The Surgical Technologist is responsible for providing direct support to the surgical team by ensuring the operating room is properly prepared, sterile, and equipped for surgical procedures. This role assists surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to maintain a safe, efficient, and compliant perioperative environment in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Preoperative Responsibilities Prepare and maintain the sterile field in accordance with aseptic technique and infection prevention standards. Set up operating rooms with required surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment based on procedure type. Perform surgical scrub and don sterile attire in compliance with policy. Verify case readiness, including instruments, implants, supplies, and equipment functionality. Assist with patient positioning and draping under the direction of the circulating nurse. Perform surgical counts with the circulating nurse in accordance with policy. Intraoperative Responsibilities Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to surgeons and assistants in a safe and timely manner. Anticipate surgeon needs and respond appropriately during procedures. Maintain sterile technique and immediately address any breaks in sterility. Assist with specimen handling per policy and regulatory requirements. Participate in time-outs and other patient safety protocols. Assist with final surgical counts and room turnover. Safely dispose of sharps and biohazard materials. Clean, decontaminate, and prepare instruments for transport to sterile processing. Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room as needed. Restock supplies and ensure readiness for subsequent cases. Compliance & Safety & Quality Adhere to all infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and safety policies. Comply with AAAHC, CMS, and other applicable regulatory standards. Participate in required training, competencies, and continuing education. Report safety concerns, adverse events, and equipment issues promptly. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required. Unencumbered Surgical Technologist certification required (CST or equivalent), as applicable by state law. New York State: Surgical Technologists must be certified unless grandfathered. Grandfathered status requires documentation confirming at least one (1) year of uninterrupted surgical technologist experience prior to January 1, 2015. Experience Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technology experience in an ASC or hospital setting preferred. Skills Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation. Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced surgical environment. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in high‑pressure situations. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift supplies, and assist with patient positioning. Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods. Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to50lbs. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and surgical equipment.
