Site Safety Officer

Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), Federal Construction, Porterville, CA

We're hiring a Site Safety and Health Officer for a federal general contractor's active multi-million dollar ground up construction project in Porterville, CA.

As the SSHO, you'll be the on site safety authority for the project, with full stop work authority and direct responsibility for implementing and enforcing the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP) under EM 385-1-1. You'll work closely with the project manager, superintendents, the QC team, and project engineers, so this role suits someone who is confident holding the line on safety while staying collaborative with the wider team.

What you'll be doing

• Implementing and enforcing the SSHP in full compliance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards
• Serving as the primary on site safety representative with stop work authority
• Conducting daily site inspections and safety audits across all work areas
• Reviewing and managing Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for every phase of work
• Leading safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions
• Investigating incidents and preparing all required reports and documentation
• Maintaining complete USACE-required safety records
• Coordinating directly with USACE safety staff, project management, and every subcontractor on site

What you'll need

• 5+ years of construction safety experience, including genuine time on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
• Strong working knowledge of EM 385-1-1
• Current First Aid/CPR certification
• The ability to enforce safety compliance across all subcontractors on a live site

Nice to have, not required:

• CHST, CSP, or OSHA 510/500
• Prior federal or DoD construction experience

This is a direct hire, on site position, day shift, five days a week, with an immediate start. Compensation is $130,000 to $160,000 depending on experience, plus per diem.
