RN - MedSurg/Tele

• About Facility:


o 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157


o 885 licensed beds


o Level 1 Trauma Designation


o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center


o Chest Pain Center


o Stroke Center


• Unit Information: 5C


o Beds: 10


• Census? Average patients/day? 8


o Minimum Years of Experience required: 1 year Med/Tele experience


o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Travel experience preferred


• Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:


o Variety of MedSurg:


• DM (no insulin gtts), Respiratory illnesses, GI illnesses, Neuro sx, Trauma sx, spinal precautions


o Cardiac and CT surgery - pre-CT surgery (CABG), Cath lab patients (clean Cath) - will manage TR bands


• Patient Ratios:


o RN: 1:5


o CNA: 1:10


• Required Licensure & Certifications:


o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)


• Skills required:


o Cardiac rhythm interpretation, PCA pumps, all types of surgical drains, wound care, TR Bands


o Gtts that traveler will manage: Cardizem, Nitro and Amio - must be comfortable to learn


• Support within the Department:


o CNA: Supports the RN by obtaining VS and blood glucose checks; assists with hourly safety rounds and ADLs.


o Receptionist/HUC


o Charge nurse - free floating. On occasion, may have a full assignment


o Phlebotomy? Yes, peripheral blood draws


o IV/VAT Team? No, we start our own IVs.


o RT 24/7? Yes, available - will need to page for assistance when needed


o Hospitalist 24/7


o Intensivist 24/7


o Telemetry monitoring/tech? Telemetry monitors by bedside - RN will read and interpret cardiac strips


• Technology/Equipment:


o EMR: Epic


o IV Pump: Alaris


o Med dispensing: Omnicell


o Monitors: No monitors in the rooms.


o Unit specific equipment: External fixators, chest tubes, PCAs, trachs, complex wound care

o Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, 4A MedSurg Overflow
