Accounting Assistant

The ND Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Finance team is seeking an Accounting Assistant to support a variety of service programs provided throughout the state.

As an Accounting Assistant you will serve as the primary fiscal liaison between the Client Services Accountants and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), providing fiscal leadership, guidance, and support to ensure effective financial management of HHS programs. You will be responsible for fiscal oversight, technical assistance, accounting support, compliance monitoring, budgeting, financial reporting, and coordination of fiscal activities.

This role will ensure that expenditures and financial activities are accurate, allowable, properly documented, and compliant with applicable Federal, State, and Department laws, rules, regulations, and policies. Performing and coordinating daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and budgeting activities in support of the programs, contributing to accurate financial reporting, sound fiscal practices, and effective stewardship of public resources.

To be successful, you must have strong financial and analytical skills. You must have the ability to apply accounting principles, budgeting practices, and fiscal policies to a variety of service programs. Organization, dependability, attention to detail, and managing multiple priorities with little guidance are also essential for this position. As an Accounting Assistant, you will be known for being able to communicate clearly, directly, and firmly without coming across as pushy. You dive into opportunities to improve processes and are willing to take on new responsibilities as you continue to grow in your role.

To be considered for this position, you must have a minimum associate's degree along with three to five years of experience in professional accounting. You must be familiar with MS Excel functions and comfortable with learning new computer programs. Preference will be given to those with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.

Location
This position may work remotely from within North Dakota with the ability to travel to Bismarck, ND for occasionally.
