Lecturer AY – Music Job No: 557577 Work Type: Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer Location: Pomona Department: Music Department, College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences, Cal Poly Pomona Subject Areas Applied lessons in all major orchestral, jazz, and popular music instruments (including voice) Musicianship (sight‑singing, dictation) Music theory Music history/musicology Ethnomusicology Audio engineering/production Music technology (DAWs, notation software) Composition and songwriting Music education (secondary methods, instrumental methods, etc.) Music business (copyright, licensing, management, non‑profits) General education (introduction to music, music appreciation) Ensemble direction Responsibilities Teach assigned courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on the assigned teaching unit load. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses, as well as possible concert production. Required Qualifications A master’s degree in a musical discipline specific to the instructional duties or a related discipline. At least two years of professional experience in the field specific to the instructional duties. Preferred Qualifications A Ph.D. in a musical discipline specific to the instructional duties or a related discipline. Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching ability. At least five years of professional experience in the field specific to the instructional duties. Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. Beginning ranks and salary ranges (July 2024) are as follows: Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 Cal Poly Pomona offers a competitive total compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and tuition assistance.
