Environmental Project Manager

Overview Tanaq Environmental, LLC. (Tanaq) delivers environmental engineering, investigation, consulting, and remediation services to local, state, and federal agencies in the areas of hazardous & toxic waste restoration, environmental compliance, emerging contaminants, and military munitions site management. About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental Technical Lead to support and lead complex environmental investigation, restoration, remediation, and emerging contaminant projects for federal and commercial clients. This role serves as a senior technical resource responsible for planning and executing field investigations, developing technical strategies and deliverables, supporting project execution, mentoring junior staff, and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams. The Senior Environmental Technical Lead serves as a senior technical lead supporting Project Managers and Program Managers throughout all phases of environmental investigation and remediation projects. Responsibilities include technical document preparation and review, data interpretation, field oversight, remediation support, subcontractor coordination, client engagement, and technical quality assurance. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in environmental restoration, hydrogeology, geology, remediation, and emerging contaminants (including PFAS), with the ability to independently manage technical workstreams, develop investigation and remediation strategies, support proposal development, mentor staff, and effectively communicate with clients, regulators, and project teams. This is a hybrid remote role based anywhere in the United States with estimated travel up to 30‑50% annually, depending on project requirements. Responsibilities Support environmental investigation and remediation projects involving CERCLA, RCRA, MMRP, PFAS, HTRW, and other environmental restoration programs for federal and commercial clients by providing technical expertise. Independently plan and execute technical investigations with minimal oversight while supporting Project Managers in project planning, scheduling, resource coordination, and successful project delivery. Support/lead field investigations involving drilling oversight, well installation, soil logging, groundwater monitoring, aquifer testing, remediation implementation, and environmental sampling activities. Prepare, review, and provide technical quality assurance for a wide range of federal environmental restoration deliverables, including decision documents, investigation reports, remedial planning documents, conceptual site models, monitoring reports, work plans, and quality assurance plans. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to staff scientists, geologists, engineers, and field technicians to support professional development and technical excellence. Develop 3-dimensional (3D) environmental and hydrogeologic models using Earth Volumetric Studio (EVS) or provide oversite and technical expertise during development. Evaluate hydrogeologic conditions and develop conceptual site models to support groundwater flow interpretation, contaminant fate and transport assessments, plume characterization, and investigation design. Prepare technical presentations and project status updates to clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders in both virtual and in-person settings. Contribute to proposal development, including technical approaches, work plans, scopes, cost estimating, and responses to federal and commercial solicitations. Collaborate with corporate safety and quality personnel to ensure adherence to applicable health, safety, and quality requirements. Requirements Minimum 15 years of related environmental consulting, environmental restoration, remediation, geology, hydrogeology, engineering, or technical project support experience; 20+ years preferred. Strong technical experience supporting one or more of the following: Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste; Per‑and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); Emerging contaminants; CERCLA/Superfund investigations and remediation; RCRA corrective actions; Military Munitions Response Program; Groundwater investigations and remediation; Environmental compliance programs Minimum 10 years of field experience supporting environmental investigation and remediation projects, including field leadership responsibilities. Experience supporting multidisciplinary technical teams and mentoring junior staff. Experience overseeing drilling, sampling, and remediation subcontractors. Experience interpreting hydrogeologic and geologic conditions and supporting conceptual site model development. Prior experience supporting federal government clients, including DoD, USACE, USAF, USN, EPA, USFS, and BIA. Experience supporting proposal preparation, technical approaches, and scope development preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong technical writing and document review capability. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments and deadlines. Self‑driven with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. Professional demeanor with a positive, solution‑oriented attitude and personal accountability. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental data management and visualization tools. Must possess a valid driver's license with a clear and satisfactory driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Must be able to obtain clearance to access military bases and other federal government installations to perform job duties. Education and Training Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution required. Professional licensure such as Professional Geologist, Registered Professional Geologist, Professional Engineer. OSHA 40‑hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) training with current 8‑hour refresher preferred. OSHA 30‑hour Construction Safety Training. USACE Construction Quality Management Training preferred. Additional safety, quality, technical, or remediation‑related certifications and training are considered favorable. Physical Requirements Must be able and willing to travel to visit job sites, attend client meetings, and/or attend professional or technical conferences, typically up to 30‑50% annually within the United States. Physically able, with or without accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals, moisture, dryness, and vibration. This position requires the ability to perform physical activities associated with field work, including walking long distances, climbing ladders, and carrying equipment. Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching are essential functions of the job. Position requires frequent performance of repetitive bending and stooping, standing and walking, power gripping and squeezing (using hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, and lifting less than 25‑50 pounds. Often performing work with arms above shoulder level and keyboard/mouse operations. Occasionally performing repetitive fine hand movements and lifting 50‑75 pounds. Rarely climbing stairs, using portable ladders, working around heavy moving equipment, and working in confined spaces. Position will require wearing associated personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hats/safety helmets, hearing protection, and respirators. Good near and far vision (corrected to 20/40) is necessary to accurately measure instruments, record data in field logs, and identify potential hazards in the field. Must be able to work in a hybrid remote work arrangement with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Who We Are Tanaq Environmental, LLC.
