Location: Fairhope AL

Schedule: 2pm-10:30pm Mon-Fri with rotating weekends

Projected duration: 6 months + potential for perm

Required to wear N95 mask and red scrubs

Requires prior hospital experience

Overview:

The primary role of a phlebotomist involves assisting in the execution of assigned tasks, providing troubleshooting support, delivering training, and offering workflow suggestions.

Responsibilities:

Proficient in blood collection, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance record keeping, decontamination, patient information updates, etc.

Responsible for collecting and storing specimens following established protocols.

Effectively explains the venipuncture process or other specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear and courteous manner.

Demonstrates proper technique with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Ensures thorough understanding and adherence to all physicians’ orders.

Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as per test order requirements.

Verifies test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy verification.

Prepares specimens for transportation.

Properly stores specimen samples at required temperatures, places them in appropriate containers or tubes, labels accurately, and follows specific protocol procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.

Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attends annual departmental trainings.

Handles telephone inquiries, reads laboratory results to cater to queries.

Qualifications:

Valid phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment

At least 6 months of experience conducting venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
