Staff Attorney

Staff Attorney (Multiple Vacancies) Supervisorial position within the Staff Attorney's Office of the Appellate Court of Maryland. Location & Compensation 361 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD 21401 Salary: $101,852 (Salary Scale 2026) Primary Purpose Review lower court records and appellate briefs; conduct legal research; draft memoranda for the appellate panel on assigned cases. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Review Circuit Court records and appellate briefs filed by parties. Conduct legal research on issues raised and any related matters. Draft memoranda summarizing facts and legal analysis for the panel. Review complex motions, screen cases, and draft related memoranda. Perform other assigned duties as necessary. Minimum Qualifications Education: Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing in the Maryland Bar. Experience: Two (2) years of legal work involving research, analysis, and writing. Preferred Qualifications Prior appellate experience, judicial clerkship, or other related experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Maryland statutes, rules, regulations, case law, and the appellate process. Skill in drafting legal memoranda, orders, and using research tools (Lexis/Westlaw, library resources). Ability to recognize and summarize facts, analyze legal issues, conduct research, and work independently with minimal supervision.
