Job Summary The City of Doral Police Department seeks a certified law enforcement officer or an applicant currently enrolled in Florida Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy) to perform general law enforcement and public safety duties. The role involves patrol, traffic control, accident investigation, preliminary and follow‑up investigations at crime scenes, serving writs, public safety education, and various rescue and investigative operations. The position is full‑time, non‑exempt, and requires a 40‑hour work week with variable shift schedules. Essential Functions Patrol the City of Doral area in a radio‑equipped vehicle or motorcycle to preserve law and order. Respond to a variety of calls, using personal counseling techniques up to the use of physical or deadly force. Respond to crashes, domestic disturbances, misdemeanors, felonies, traffic and crowd incidents, and other emergencies. Administer first aid, conduct preliminary investigations, locate evidence, obtain witness information, complete reports, make arrests, and escort prisoners to jail. Testify in court concerning work activities. Serve Criminal and Metropolitan writs; conduct searches and surveillances to locate those to be served; arrest fugitives and return them to proper authority. Instruct civic and school groups on traffic safety; broadcast traffic information via radio stations. Assist in departmental programs and collaborate with other agencies on social, medical, and psychological issues such as domestic crises, alcoholism, attempted suicides, and emotional disturbances. Participate in underwater search and recovery, mobile crime laboratory work, undercover surveillance, civil defense exercises, rescue operations, marine patrol, and vice raids. Direct traffic at local schools as needed. Serve at local schools and community locations as required. Complete paperwork, perform roll call, and assign duties as needed. Participate in the presentation of departmental training programs. Work variable hours and shift schedules as required. Additional Duties Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Education and Training For Certified Police Officers: Full‑time sworn employment in another police agency within the last 24 months or separated within the last 24 months. Possession of a State of Florida Basic Recruit Certificate of Compliance or its equivalent. Completed probation with a Florida law enforcement agency. One year of police experience. For those enrolled in Florida Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy): Must meet the minimum requirements of a Police Officer prior to a start date, including passing the Basic Abilities Test, completing the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program, and passing the State Officer Certification Exam. Physical Abilities Test (PAA): All applicants must pass. The test includes a timed mile run, push‑ups (1 minute), sit‑ups (1 minute), and a timed 300‑meter run. A passing score is based on age requirements. High School Diploma or GED. Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at the time of application; must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License before a final offer. Minimum age of 19. US citizen. No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving perjury or false statements; certain post‑July 1, 1981 convictions bar eligibility. No dishonorable discharge from any U.S. Armed Forces. Good moral character. Medical requirements: minimum county medical standards, visual acuity not exceeding 20/100 uncorrected or 20/30 corrected (contact lenses allowed), color vision (red, green, yellow), weight proportionate to height. Minimum Qualifications and Standards Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of state statutes, local ordinances, and departmental regulations concerning search and seizure, arrest, and evidence admissibility. Knowledge of City of Doral geography and road network. Knowledge of law enforcement methods and procedures. Knowledge of first aid principles and application skills. Basic human relations techniques. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to develop and maintain firearms proficiency. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical Requirements Balance on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces; climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, lift (up to 20 pounds), pull, push, and reach; read or listen to oral communications; make rational decisions; perform repetitive hand motions; speak accurately and clearly; stand or stoop as needed; use visual acuity for computer tasks; walk between job sites.
