Technical Project Manager - MSP

Job Description

Technical Project Manager – MSP

\n

Rockville, MD | Hybrid | Up to $115K

\n

\n

A growing Managed Service Provider in the DC metro area is looking for an experienced Technical Project Manager to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of client-facing IT projects.

\n

\n

This is a high-visibility opportunity within an organization that is entering its next stage of growth following a recent acquisition. The company is now part of a four-company technology platform approaching $30M in combined revenue, creating an opportunity for the person hired to initially own project delivery within the MSP and potentially expand into broader project management leadership across all four organizations over time.

\n

\n

This is not a traditional PM position where you're simply updating timelines and scheduling engineers. They need someone who understands technology well enough to challenge a project scope, identify risks before they become problems, hold technical resources accountable, and confidently communicate with engineers, clients, CIOs, and executive leadership.

\n

\n

What You’ll Be Doing

\n

\n
• Manage approximately 20 concurrent technical projects from initial scope through successful completion.
\n
• Own project schedules, resources, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and client communication.
\n
• Coordinate and provide project direction to Senior Project Engineers and other technical resources.
\n
• Drive accountability across engineering teams even when those resources do not directly report to you.
\n
• Review SOWs, technical scopes, and project requirements to identify gaps, risks, and unrealistic assumptions before they impact delivery.
\n
• Push back professionally when a project is improperly scoped, understaffed, or at risk.
\n
• Partner directly with clients, engineers, CIOs, and internal leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
\n
• Manage projects ranging from network/infrastructure deployments to complex, multi-location technology transformations.
\n
• Support larger enterprise initiatives involving multiple offices, applications, vendors, and stakeholders.
\n
• Help improve and standardize internal project management processes and delivery methodology.
\n
• As the organization continues integrating, potentially help expand and oversee project management across the broader four-company platform.
\n

\n

\n

What They’re Looking For

\n

\n
• 3+ years of technical Project Management experience.
\n
• Previous MSP experience is extremely important and will be one of the primary qualifications for the position.
\n
• Experience managing infrastructure, Microsoft/cloud, networking, cybersecurity, migrations, or other technical projects.
\n
• Strong enough technically to understand what engineers are doing and recognize when a project scope doesn't make sense.
\n
• Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects and competing priorities.
\n
• Comfortable coordinating engineers and driving accountability without having direct management authority.
\n
• Strong client-facing communication skills.
\n
• Confident working directly with CIOs, technical teams, and executive stakeholders.
\n
• Ability to professionally challenge clients or engineers when necessary to protect project delivery.
\n
• PMP certification is preferred, but not required.
\n

\n

\n

Why This Role Stands Out

\n

The project portfolio has significant variety. One project could be a straightforward network/switch deployment, while another could involve 30+ applications across eight global offices. The organization has also supported CIO-level strategic initiatives, including a recent six-month AI foundations implementation.

\n

There is also a larger career opportunity behind the immediate position. The MSP is now part of a four-company platform, and as those organizations continue to integrate, the long-term vision is for this person to potentially have influence over project management across the broader organization.

\n

For a strong MSP Project Manager who wants more ownership and visibility, this provides a path beyond simply managing a queue of projects.

\n

\n

Compensation & Benefits

\n

\n
• Up to $115K base salary
\n
• Growing MSP backed by a larger technology platform
\n
• High visibility with company leadership
\n
• Diverse technical project portfolio
\n
• Opportunity to work alongside experienced Senior Project Engineers
\n
• Ability to help shape and scale the company's PM function
\n
• Long-term opportunity for expanded responsibility across multiple organizations
