Job Description

This role is field-based, and candidates should live within a reasonable distance from the primary city. Talent will be hired at a level commensurate with experience.

Purpose Statement:

The Associate Director, Oncology Field Reimbursement leads a regional team of Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs) providing compliant access, reimbursement, and affordability support across the oncology portfolio. This leader is accountable for building, hiring, onboarding, coaching, and developing a high-performing FRM team that can execute across today’s portfolio while scaling for future launch needs. The role translates portfolio access strategy into disciplined field execution and partners cross-functionally with Patient Services, Market Access, Sales, Brand, Training, Analytics, Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, hub, and vendor partners. 

Responsibilities 

• Lead, coach, develop, and manage a regional Oncology FRM team. 
• Build, hire, and onboard a portfolio-ready team with clear role expectations, territory readiness, development plans, and a culture of accountability, teamwork, compliance, customer focus, and high performance. 
• Set and reinforce expectations for field execution, customer engagement, account prioritization, business planning, performance management, and compliant use of approved resources. 
• Coach FRMs through field travel, ride-alongs, team meetings, business reviews, and individualized development plans. 
• Ensure FRMs educate appropriate HCP office staff and account stakeholders on coverage, coding, billing, reimbursement, benefit verification, prior authorization, appeals, payer requirements, product acquisition, specialty pharmacy/distribution, and affordability support. 
• Translate oncology portfolio strategy, franchise priorities, payer dynamics, patient support objectives, and multiple myeloma launch readiness into regional execution plans. 
• Partner cross-functionally to define training, tools, workflows, dashboards, account education priorities, and feedback loops for portfolio and launch readiness. 
• Monitor team activity, capacity, account coverage, quality, compliance, and performance through analytics, reporting tools, field insights, and business reviews. 
• Engage key oncology and hematology accounts, when appropriate, to understand access barriers and support resolution of complex reimbursement or affordability challenges. 
• Capture and escalate field insights related to payer policies, coverage barriers, prior authorization trends, site-of-care issues, coding/billing challenges, specialty distribution dynamics, customer education needs, and portfolio or launch risks. 
• Contribute to the evolution of the Oncology FRM operating model, including recommendations for structure, workload balance, engagement cadence, performance measures, and field capability development. 
• Ensure all activities comply with AbbVie policies, applicable laws and regulations, compliance requirements, and approved materials and processes. 

Portfolio, Launch, and Team-Building Focus 

• Build a portfolio-ready team with the capabilities and customer focus needed to support current oncology brands and future launch demands. 
• Accelerate onboarding for new FRMs across role readiness, technical knowledge, territory understanding, portfolio fluency, and compliance expectations. 
• Integrate current and new FRMs into one cohesive team with shared standards, trust, teamwork, and ownership of portfolio and launch outcomes. 
• Establish field execution expectations across steady-state portfolio support, pre-launch readiness, launch, and post-launch execution. 
• Use field insights to inform portfolio planning, multiple myeloma launch readiness, training, operational readiness, customer support needs, and continuous improvement. 

Qualifications

Education 

• Bachelor’s degree required; degree in health sciences, pharmacy, business, healthcare administration, or related field preferred. Advanced degree preferred. 

Experience 

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in field reimbursement, market access, managed care, payer support, patient services, oncology field support, specialty pharmacy/distribution, hub services, or a related healthcare role. 
• Minimum of 3 years of experience leading, coaching, developing, or managing field-based teams preferred. 
• Oncology and/or hematology-oncology experience strongly preferred, including experience with physician-administered therapies, buy-and-bill products, medical benefit reimbursement, specialty distribution/pharmacy, or complex access models. 
• Launch, indication expansion, territory buildout, or organizational scaling experience strongly preferred. 
• Demonstrated understanding of coverage, coding, billing, reimbursement, benefit verification, prior authorization, appeals, claims submission, payer policy, affordability support, and patient support program operations. 
• Ability to lead through ambiguity, build team capability, manage change, and deliver results in a matrixed, regulated environment.

• Ability to build and scale teams during growth, change, portfolio expansion, or launch readiness. 
• Strong understanding of oncology access and reimbursement dynamics, including payer policy, coding, claims submission, prior authorization and appeals, product acquisition, specialty pharmacy/distribution, and white-bagging. 
• Ability to translate portfolio and launch strategy into clear field execution priorities and measurable action plans. 
• Strong business planning, account prioritization, analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills. 
• Ability to use data, insights, and field feedback to monitor performance, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement. 
• High level of integrity, judgment, professionalism, emotional intelligence, and compliance orientation. 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across a complex oncology portfolio and travel extensively within the assigned geography.
