Public Safety Officer (Full Time) Location Main Campus (300 Longwood Ave. Boston) Shifts Hiring for ALL shifts (8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am) Starting Rate $23.73/hour COVID Vaccination Required** Job Summary Public Safety Officers will serve at Boston Children’s Hospital, responding to door alarms, patient escorts, restraining high‑risk patients, and liaising with local law enforcement. Officers must navigate complex hospital environments with discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality, maintain professionalism, and operate 24x7/365 with strict attendance and weather‑independent scheduling. Responsibilities and Duties Interact with both mentally sound and mentally diminished patients. Physically and mechanically restrain patients using wrist and ankle straps. Handle verbally or physically aggressive patients (bite, spit, punch, kick, etc.). Conduct patient watches, which may require sitting in one place for up to 8 hours while remaining attentive. Prevent patients from self‑harm and/or leaving the room. De‑escalate patients or guests when they become agitated or disruptive. Assist hospital staff in searching patients for dangerous weapons/objects. Write up to 300 reports per year. Manage main desk and lobby area with exceptional phone etiquette. Conduct access control and interact face‑to‑face with over 250 visitors per day. Provide directions to guests. Listen to radios and respond to alarms within patrol zone with a strong sense of urgency. Adhere to no cell phone carry policy; use provided lockers and emergency contact procedures. Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures. Effective team member. Maintain professional composure in unusual circumstances. Courteous telephone manner. Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports. Good organizational skills. Provide high‑quality customer service. Good interpersonal skills, interacting effectively across diverse cultures.
