Project Engineer

Project EngineerJames Hardie is the industry leader in exterior home and outdoor living solutions. As a member of the Global Engineering and Construction organization, the Project Engineer will provide technical leadership, design oversight, and technical direction in the safe, effective, and efficient execution of capital projects including new construction and/or upgrades to existing equipment. This individual will function as a project manager and, as needed, lead a group of project engineers on larger projects. The ideal candidate shall have 5 - 7 years' experience process design and scope development, supervising project teams, providing guidance to project planning and scheduling, budget development, and overseeing mid to large capital construction projects from inception through startup.Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:Prepare and issue RFP's to engineering consultants, equipment vendors, contractors and/or EPCsInternally develop/review approve piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)Develop/manage to the scope, schedule, and budgetConduct engineering reviews with consultants, vendors, and contractorsEffectively conduct PHA's, HAZOP's and JSA's for all processes and equipmentEnsure Management of Change is adhered to on all capital projectsSupport Front End Loading (FEL) process for new Capital ExpendituresVerify the fulfillment of CER requirementsCoordinate the creation and dissemination of major equipment specifications developed by SME's to the procurement teamEngage procurement to define and manage vendor deliverablesReview and approve vendor invoices for paymentEnsure that all equipment, valves, and instrumentation are procured based on specification and scheduleCoordinate communication with key stakeholders throughout the project life-cycleDefine and coordinate commissioning and start-up activitiesIdentify and assist in coordinating solutions to operational problems after start-upProvide monthly progress reports and financial updates on assigned projectsParticipate in planning and coordination meetings for project progression and reportingUnderstands applicable construction codes for the plant location, with assistance from engineering support staffWorks with engineering/drafting to resolve field engineering design issues and constructability concernsThere will be up to 50% domestic travel and the possibility of occasional international travel. Having a passport will be helpful in case of international travel.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.Minimum 5 -7 years' experience in a project or design engineering role focused on mechanical equipment or equipment systems.Experience in Industrial Manufacturing Environment preferredAdditional Qualifications Preferred:Project Engineering experience with an EPC contractorStrong multi-tasking skills, analytical skills, project delivery & financial skillsPMP CertificationProficiency with Microsoft Office applicationsFamiliarity and experience with site construction managementStrong oral and written communications skillsAbility to work effectively within a team-based environmentEncourage Voice of Operator input/Feedback to define functionality of equipmentPlant and/or equipment layout experience with Maintenance access and functionality in mindUnderstanding of construction techniques, trade coordination, and phasingCompensation: competitive salary and bonus eligibilityInsurance: day-one health coverage medical, dental, vision, life insurancePaid Time Off: vacation and company holidaysRetirement: 401(k) with 6% matchInvestments: Employee Stock Purchase plan (ESP)Work-Life Balance: parental leave, wellness programsPurpose.
