Physician Practice Nurse RN

Registered Nurse (RN) Primary Care

Location: Binghamton, New York

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers professional nursing care in the Physician Practice setting, supporting healthcare providers and office staff in the coordination and delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care. Responsibilities include triaging and assessing patients, providing clinical care, assisting providers, facilitating care transitions, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and quality standards. Nurses will initially spend time on a centralized team for orientation and training. Following this period, nurses will be deployed to various Primary Care practices across Binghamton. If there is a suitable fit with a specific practice or location, nurses may be directly assigned to that practice. Otherwise, nurses will continue floating between multiple Primary Care practices. The RN is accountable for maintaining compliance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, Hospitals and Nursing Division policies, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the Patient Bill of Rights.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Clinical Duties

• Triage and assess patients in person and/or by telephone, utilizing appropriate protocols to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.
• Conduct patient intake, including health history, vital signs, and health screenings.
• Administer medications and immunizations as ordered.
• Assist healthcare providers with examinations, minor procedures, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
• Perform wound care, dressing changes, and specimen collection.
• Educate patients and their support systems on treatment plans, preventive care, and follow-up instructions.
• Support chronic disease management and preventive screenings.
• Communicate test results and care instructions to patients and/or their support systems.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate comprehensive patient care.

Documentation and Compliance

• Document all patient interactions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) requirements, infection control standards, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory standards.

Team Collaboration and Clinical Support

• Coordinate clinical training, orientation, and ongoing evaluation of new and existing clinical staff.
• Ensure completion and submission of clinical competencies and credentialing at the time of hire and annually.
• Mentor, guide, and support Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Medical Office Assistants (MOAs), ensuring adherence to scope-of-practice guidelines for all clinical staff.
• Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
• Attend clinical meetings and communicate relevant information to clinical team members.
• Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the roles of each team member in the office.
• Facilitate effective shared decision-making.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA, HSI, or a client-approved provider.
• At least one year of experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in an outpatient setting.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
