Job Description
ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position involves working in a high-acuity environment, caring for critically ill patients and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide exemplary patient care.

Shift Information

• 12-hour shifts, with options for days or nights
• Self-scheduling available for core staff; travelers will be added to the schedule
• Weekend requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirements: Minimum of two holidays during the contract period

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3 for adult patients
• Common patient diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
• Administration and titration of various drips, including cardiac and insulin drips, as well as sedation
• Monitoring and interpreting telemetry readings
• Ability to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, with a focus on vent usage

Support Staff

• Availability of Nurse Aides based on patient census to assist on the floor
• Healthcare Support Technician available during scheduled weekdays for additional support

Qualifications

• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Previous ICU experience preferred, with familiarity in working with critical care patients
• Ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team

Orientation and Training

• One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
• Open book exam on skills learned during orientation; a 90% score is needed to pass

Floating Requirements

Floating may occur to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or MedSurg units, maintaining similar patient ratios typically assigned on those units.

Important Policies

• Compliance with nail care policies; artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• Approval needed for any additional time off requests, limited to 7 days upfront
• Hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment

Charting System

Charting performed using the EPIC system.

Trauma Level

Facility operates at a Trauma Level 2.

Care Settings

Position located in an acute care setting, with a focus on providing high-quality medical attention to critical patients.
