Electrician

The City of San Diego is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Electrician. This role involves installing, testing, and replacing various electrical and electronic components, including conduits, ducts, transformers, circuits, wires, and communication cables. Responsibilities also include installing and maintaining electronic equipment such as programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, and lighting systems. Employees may be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, and may need to operate various types of cranes and vehicles.

Minimum requirements include either successful completion of a state-accredited four or five-year Electrician Apprenticeship Program or five years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Electrician, with a focus on commercial or industrial wiring, installation, and repair of electrical conduit systems. Some positions may require a Crane Operator Certification, a valid California Class C Driver License, or a valid California Class B Driver License and a California Department of Motor Vehicles medical certificate. Highly desirable qualifications include a valid State of California Electrician Certification, a valid California Crane Operator Certificate, a valid California Class A or Class B Driver License, a valid Arc Flash Safety Certification, and experience in wiring and rewiring buildings, confined spaces, fiber optics, programmable logic controllers, personal computers, and a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
