Coordinator, Occupational Health & Safety - Austin Water $66,000 - $82,000 About This Position Austin Water is a public utility serving over 1,000,000 customers in the Austin metropolitan area. The Occupational Health & Safety Division ensures employee safety in high‑risk environments. Purpose Apply knowledge of policies, rules and regulations to develop, administer, implement and evaluate the occupational health and safety program. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive safety and training programs. Establish standards and procedures, and perform facility and job‑site inspections to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local laws. Participate in preparation and monitoring of budget and contracts, and recommend capital expenditures. Conduct accident and incident investigations to determine root causes and develop prevention plans. Provide advice and counsel to management and employee groups on occupational safety issues. Develop and conduct safety training for workgroups, evaluating and modifying programs to meet OSHA requirements. Coordinate safety activities including drills, inspections and investigations. Analyze accident or injury data, create reports and identify trends to develop solutions. Research safety information and adopt best available methods and equipment. Responsibilities - Supervisory Oversight May be responsible for the full range of supervisory activities, including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendations for dismissal. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Federal, State and Local occupational safety laws and ordinances. Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of safety policies, risk management principles and training principles. Knowledge of financial analysis methods. Skill in oral and written communication, prioritization, computer use, data analysis and problem solving. Skill in conducting investigations and identifying safety hazards. Ability to handle conflict, present training and use HR computerized tools. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities. Ability to develop and maintain current knowledge of health and safety programs, plan and facilitate training, and maintain good relationships with coworkers and the public. Minimum Qualifications Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in occupational health and safety, or equivalent education and experience. Licenses and Certifications Valid Texas Driver License. Appropriate certifications as specified for the assignment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a utility or regulated industry with high‑risk environments. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office. Experience leading small teams and training utility employees. Experience coaching field personnel on safe work practices. Experience investigating and analyzing safety incidents in high‑risk settings. Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, investigations and data analysis. Pay Range $32.96 – $41.20 hourly Work Location and Hours Day shift Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with flexibility.
