Fitness Floor Attendant

Starting hiring salary - $18.00 to $19.08 hourly Age Requirement 16+ Nature of Work The Fitness Floor Attendant provides a safe, clean, welcoming, and positive experience for patrons using the fitness areas at Brighton Recreation Center. This position serves as a visible and approachable member of the Fitness and Wellness team and is responsible for monitoring fitness areas, providing general customer assistance, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and identifying and reporting safety concerns or equipment issues. The Fitness Floor Attendant provides general information and assistance regarding the use of cardiovascular, strength, and other fitness equipment within the scope of the position. This role is not responsible for providing individualized exercise programming, fitness assessments, or personal training services. Individuals in this position are expected to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, sound judgment, and excellent customer service while working cooperatively with patrons, coworkers, and other City employees. Supervision Exercised No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised. Supervision Received Works under the direction of the Fitness and Wellness leadership team and/or designated Recreation Center supervisor. Performs assigned duties independently during scheduled shifts and seeks guidance from a supervisor when situations fall outside the scope of the position. Typical Qualifications Education, Experience, and Formal Training High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous customer service, recreation, fitness, hospitality, or related experience preferred. Previous experience using cardiovascular and strength-training equipment preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Licenses or Certificates Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain certification within a specified period following employment. Additional fitness-related certifications are preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Basic principles of exercise, physical fitness, and safe equipment use. Common cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. Basic fitness equipment safety and maintenance procedures. Customer service principles and practices. Recreation Center policies, procedures, and safety practices. Skill in Providing friendly, professional, and responsive customer service. Communicating effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, and ability levels. Identifying and appropriately responding to safety hazards and equipment concerns. Demonstrating basic and safe use of fitness equipment. Maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming fitness environments. Using computers, tablets, radios, and other technology as required. Working independently while maintaining communication with supervisors and coworkers. Ability to Create a positive and welcoming environment for Recreation Center patrons. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, coworkers, supervisors, and other City employees. Communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully, including when addressing policy or safety concerns. Exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately to routine and unexpected situations. Recognize when a patron's needs exceed the scope of the Fitness Floor Attendant role and appropriately refer the patron to qualified staff or resources. Follow established policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling patron information. Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interaction with the public. Materials and Equipment Used Materials and equipment used may include, but are not limited to: Equipment Cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, computers, tablets, radios, telephones, cleaning equipment, and other Recreation Center equipment. Materials Cleaning and sanitizing supplies, safety equipment, forms, logs, and other materials necessary for daily fitness area operations. Work Environment and Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
