The Role: The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the convention center. The position performs general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end close activities, financial reporting, and event-related accounting and settlements. The Staff Accountant also supports budgeting and forecasting, maintains accurate financial records, assists with internal controls and compliance, and provides documentation and support for internal and external audits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare, review, and post journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and other accounting adjustments. Perform and review bank, balance sheet, general ledger, and other account reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved timely. Support and participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including accruals, account analysis, and financial statement preparation. Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with company policies and accounting principles. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, budget reports, variance reports, and other management reports. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of annual operating budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses. Support event accounting and show settlements, including reviewing event-related revenues, expenses, settlements, and supporting documentation. Assist with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll, benefits, tax-related accounting, and other financial processes as needed. Monitor accounting transactions and internal controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and applicable requirements. Assist with annual audits and other financial reviews, including preparing schedules, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and responding to auditor requests. Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and provide recommendations to improve financial processes and controls. Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis to support operational and leadership decision-making. Collaborate with Operations, Event Services, Human Resources, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and other departments to gather information and resolve financial issues. Maintain organized and accurate financial records and support documentation. Protect the confidentiality of financial and company information. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university. 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate, hospitality, entertainment, convention center, venue, or similar high-volume environment. Strong experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting. Demonstrated experience supporting internal and external audits, including preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Experience with event accounting, settlements, or hospitality accounting is strongly preferred. Experience with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll accounting, or tax-related accounting is a plus. Must be able to work independently and assume responsibility for assigned accounting functions with minimal supervision. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Convention center, venue management, hospitality, entertainment, or event industry experience. Experience with event settlements and show accounting. Skills and Abilities Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and general accounting practices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to analyze financial information, identify trends and discrepancies, and recommend solutions. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced, event-driven environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with Finance, Operations, and other departments. Strong follow-through and accountability with the ability to work independently. Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with employees, management, clients, and external auditors. Ability to work occasional evenings, on weekends, or extended hours based on business and event needs. Computer Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Oracle, SAP, Workday, Dynamics, or similar platforms.
