Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Wayne, NJ – Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Department: Managed Labs Administration. Pay: $32.00–$50.73 per hour. Responsible for performing moderate and high complexity test procedures with independent judgement, troubleshooting instruments, and ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and regulatory requirements. Works with a diverse set of testing instruments and informations systems to support timely, accurate, and reliable patient results. Responsibilities Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments and procedures. Support the department with quality control, complex problem‑resolution, customer service, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. Perform and report on assigned analytical tests according to SOPs, ensuring quality control standards are met. Adhere to laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record‑keeping of patient results. Maintain scheduled turnaround times for results, including STATS or critical outcomes. Verify reagent and test kit lot and expiration dates, and record use dates where applicable. Document QC analyses and make disposition decisions for assays or tests. Communicate problems related to test performance to supervisory personnel. Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate in investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as needed. Assist supervisors with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to all CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, or work‑practice controls as directed. Answer client or lab personnel inquiries appropriately. Participate in regulatory agency inspections when required. Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated. Perform other duties as assigned; this list is not exhaustive. Qualifications Required Experience: One year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity clinical laboratory testing. Preferred Experience: At least three years clinical experience, most of which in the current department. Physical & Mental Requirements: Lift up to 10 lbs frequently, 11–25 lbs occasionally, 36–50 lbs rarely; items over 50 lbs require assistance. Stand and work at the bench for long periods; frequent walking and standing. Use manual and automated pipettes and instruments requiring dexterity. Knowledge & Skills Comprehensive operational knowledge in the designated specialty. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and detail‑oriented work habits. Excellent interpersonal communication, both in person and over the phone. Confidential handling of client information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Education & Certifications Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (preferred). ASCP Certification (preferred). Valid qualifications to the 42 CFR 493.1433 standard for technologists, with credential evaluation for foreign‑educated candidates.
