Senior Wireperson

Job Description Powell is an engineered‑to‑order manufacturer of switchgear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. A Senior Wireperson is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining electrical systems and components. Four‑10 shift schedule: Monday–Thursday 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Supervision None. Essential Responsibilities Understand and apply Engineering Change orders. Advanced knowledge of single‑ and three‑line drawings, including symbols. Perform root cause analysis on engineering changes and correct discrepancies. Install transformer cables and CTs. Lead a small team to complete tasks assigned by the lead wireperson or supervisor. Layout and run phase wire (LVSWR). Assist in training employees. Complete complex engineering changes. Install Mimic Bus. Make coaxial cable. Perform in‑process inspections. Create nameplates. Identify and track shortages. Assist in processing ship‑loose (identify, collect and provide information to QA). Install communication cables (CAT 5, CAT 6, fiber optic, BriteSpot). Terminate and run wire for MCC, SWGR, and harnesses according to wire diagram. Identify part discrepancies and write HFDs for corrections. Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings. Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma preferred. 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing. Knowledge of system software (e.g., Oracle, MES, True View) to look up parts and drawings. Lift up to 50 lbs using proper lifting techniques. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Powell product codes. Ability to assist in root cause analysis. Positive attitude. Effectively demonstrates on‑time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities. Self‑starter with drive to succeed and ability to take on multiple tasks. Working & Environmental Conditions Safety‑sensitive position in a temperature‑controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outdoor activities. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required, and respirators when needed. Must be able to work using all types of ladders (step ladders, A‑frame ladders, and extension ladders) and scaffolding. Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment. Physical Requirements Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs. Bend the body at the waist, knees, and extend arms and hands in any direction repetitively and continuously. Continuous standing, walking 50–300 foot distances for long periods with only occasional sitting. Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift. Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders, and use both arms at full length frequently. Use upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating) for long periods.
