Deputy Constable - Constable Pct #4

Overview The Deputy Constable performs specialized law enforcement duties and clerical work serving civil papers. Work involves serving criminal and civil processes, such as warrants, summonses, writs, restraining orders, and related tasks. The Deputy Constable maintains records and reports and may perform other duties assigned by the Constable. Additionally, the Deputy Constable may perform Bailiff duties in the Justice of the Peace Court and carry out other general law enforcement work within Denton County. Responsibilities Serve legal papers including warrants for worthless check writers, civil and criminal processes, summonses, warrants, subpoenas, writs of possession, orders to appear and show cause, foreclosures, executions, summary ejections, notices of hearings, claim and delivery, restraining orders, child custody orders, orders of attachment, commitment papers, and special court orders. Serve as court bailiff for Justice of the Peace Court by maintaining order, opening and recessing court, and accompanying inmates to and from court. Conduct seizures, evictions, and impounds as necessary. Patrol assigned areas, direct traffic, issue citations, respond to complaints, and apprehend suspects as required. Prepare criminal cases, files, and records; distribute to appropriate personnel as necessary. Respond to routine non-emergency and emergency calls; assist citizens as needed. Locate designated parties using directories and other resources; print or copy useful information. Explain the meaning of papers and assist with arrests when necessary; respond to public inquiries regarding law enforcement issues. Receive and date-stamp warrants, enter data into computer files, and file warrants appropriately. Maintain logs of warrants and papers served or not served; manage department files and records. Escort inmates between jail and court, applying handcuffs or restraints as appropriate and informing jail officials of changes in status. Prepare and make bank deposits of fees received for service of papers from other jurisdictions. Maintain regular and punctual attendance as required. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas is required. Possession of a valid driver's license; must be able to obtain a State of Texas Driver's license within 90 days. Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.
