Job Title: Pharmacy Technician IntakeJob Description The Pharmacy Technician Intake supports a busy specialty pharmacy operation by accurately creating and validating patient and provider records, reviewing referrals and prescriptions for completeness, and coordinating with providers to ensure all information is correct before orders move through the workflow. This role works on moderately complex assignments that require sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced call center environment without direct patient contact. Responsibilities + Work on moderately complex intake assignments, using judgment to resolve problems and make routine recommendations with minimal supervision on routine work and general guidance on new assignments. + Review the contents of referrals to ensure all required information is complete, accurate, and appropriate for further processing. + Create accurate patient profiles from scanned or faxed images by entering correct patient and provider information so downstream teams can effectively serve the patient. + Conduct an initial check of prescriptions to ensure clinical accuracy and completeness prior to processing. + Communicate with providers by phone or other channels regarding referral status, prescription clarifications, missing information, or patient concerns to ensure all necessary data is collected and verified. + Update concise and clear progress notes in the system so other roles within the workflow can quickly assess the status of each referral. + Enter new provider information, including National Provider Identifier (NPI) and related details, accurately into the system to support reporting and analytics. + Perform high-volume, accurate data entry related to pharmacy and referral information in a call center environment. + Collaborate effectively with colleagues and other teams to support a smooth, efficient intake and verification process. + Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and patient care. Essential Skills + Current CPhT Certified Pharmacy Technician national certification in good standing, without restrictions. + Current North Carolina pharmacy technician registration (NCBOP) in good standing. + 2+ years of pharmacy operations or pharmacy experience, with prior experience working in a pharmacy setting required. + Demonstrated experience in a call center or high-volume phone-based environment. + Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy in entering patient, provider, and prescription information. + Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple referrals and tasks simultaneously. + Competence in basic computer skills and the ability to work within pharmacy and call center software systems. + Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. + Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with providers and colleagues over the phone and electronically. + Conscientious, detail-oriented approach to work, with a focus on accuracy and completeness. + Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, rapidly growing specialty pharmacy environment. + High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Healthcare experience in addition to pharmacy experience is preferred. + Experience with verification or reverification processes in a pharmacy or specialty pharmacy setting is beneficial. + Familiarity with National Provider Identifier (NPI) standards and provider data management is an advantage. + Comfort working without direct patient contact, relying on phone and electronic communication to support patient care. + Ability to learn new systems and workflows quickly in a growing organization. + Strong written communication skills for documenting clear and concise progress notes. Work Environment This role operates in a professional call center and office environment within a specialty pharmacy setting. The team focuses on simplifying access to medications and delivering personalized support that helps patients achieve the best possible outcomes, all without direct in-person patient contact; all interactions occur over the phone or through electronic systems. The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is closed on major holidays and weekends. During the reverification period, the schedule is onsite Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. After the reverification phase, shifts may transition to an 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. schedule, with the potential for a hybrid onsite/remote arrangement upon permanent hire. The environment is fast-paced and technology-driven, with extensive use of computers, call center systems, and pharmacy software for data entry, documentation, and communication. The role requires standard professional office attire appropriate for an office and call center setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
