Overview
Speech Language Pathologist – Acute Care in San Luis Obispo, California, starting 10/12/2026 for a 13-week travel assignment. Responsibilities
- Conduct bedside and inpatient evaluations to assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing needs as appropriate for acute care patients.
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans; document progress in the medical record and communicate changes to the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide patient and family/caregiver education on compensatory strategies, therapy goals, and swallowing safety; offer guidance to staff as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and other team members to coordinate care, support discharge planning, and optimize patient outcomes.
- Monitor and document treatment effectiveness; ensure accurate coding and compliance with hospital policies and payer requirements.
- Participate in rounds, quality improvement activities, and infection control practices relevant to the acute care setting.

Requirements
- Active license to practice Speech-Language Pathology in California, or eligibility for licensure in California.
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP) or eligibility for certification.
- Experience in an acute care or hospital-based setting is preferred or demonstrated ability to work effectively in that environment.
- Ability to work a travel assignment in a hospital setting and adhere to clinical safety and infection control protocols.
