Position Summary

The Painter II is an advanced refinishing specialist who performs the full range of surface preparation, body repair, and paint application to restore Genie equipment to the highest quality, customer-ready finish. Working independently, the Painter II handles complex and high-visibility refinishing tasks, troubleshoots finish and process problems, and serves as a technical resource to less-experienced painters.

This is a hands-on production role that demands a high level of craftsmanship, color-matching skill, and process discipline. The Painter II contributes directly to product quality, customer satisfaction, and a safe, clean work environment, and represents the advanced level on the Paint career ladder.

Essential Duties and Responsiblities

• Perform complex surface preparation, dent removal, panel straightening, and welding or panel replacement to restore surface and structural integrity.
• Apply, shape, and finish body filler on demanding or high-visibility surfaces to achieve a defect-free result.
• Inspect and approve repaired areas for fit, finish, and structural soundness prior to coating.
• Mix, match, and apply primers, basecoats, and topcoats on complex jobs using spray systems and related application tools.
• Match colors and blend coatings to achieve consistent appearance across panels and units.
• Optimize spray equipment settings and application technique to control film build, coverage, and finish quality.
• Apply coatings in accordance with manufacturer specifications, environmental controls, and Genie Recon finish standards.
• Buff, polish, wet-sand, and detail finished surfaces to a customer-ready standard.
• Perform final quality inspection, identify root causes of finish or process defects, and apply corrective techniques.
• Identify and recommend improvements to preparation, application, and finishing processes.
• Estimate paint, primer, filler, and consumable quantities required for assigned jobs.
• Stage materials and supplies in advance to support uninterrupted production flow and minimize waste.
• Set up, operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on spray equipment, sanders, grinders, and related tools, and identify equipment issues for repair.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment (respirator, eye protection, gloves) and follow OSHA, EHS, and Genie Recon safety procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, and properly handle, label, and dispose of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials.
• Document work performed and record quality or process data as directed.

Qualitfications

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or comparable demonstrable work experience.
• Three (3) or more years of experience in automotive, industrial, or equipment painting and refinishing, or equivalent demonstrated advanced proficiency.
• Demonstrated proficiency in color matching and complex refinishing.
• Experience with body repair, including welding and panel replacement.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety data sheets, and measurements, and to troubleshoot finish and process problems independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal training or certification in auto body, refinishing, or industrial coatings.
• Experience training or mentoring other painters.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing or remanufacturing production environment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Advanced, independent use of spray application equipment, sanders, grinders, and finishing tools.
• Comprehensive knowledge of paint systems, coatings, primers, fillers, and application sequences.
• Skilled color matching and blending to achieve consistent appearance across panels and units.
• Ability to estimate material quantities and plan work for efficient production flow.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve finish and process problems and recommend improvements.
• Ability to coach and guide less-experienced painters effectively.
• Reliable understanding and application of safety and hazardous-material handling procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Perform repetitive motions associated with sanding, spraying, and finishing.
• Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally handle heavier items with assistance or lifting aids.
• Maintain steady hand control and visual acuity sufficient to evaluate color, coverage, and surface finish.
• Wear a respirator and other required PPE for sustained periods.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing and paint-shop environment with exposure to paint fumes, solvents, dust, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures.
• Work in and around spray booths, preparation areas, and production equipment.
• Use of required PPE and adherence to ventilation, respiratory, and hazardous-material controls is mandatory.
