Commercial Real Estate Paralegal

ProspectBue is working with a Richmond, Virginia law firm seeking a Paralegal to join its Capital Finance and Real Estate practice. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day support to attorneys and other members of the legal team by assisting with document preparation, legal research, file management, and other practice-related activities. The role involves working under the direction of attorneys and senior paralegals and requires careful attention to detail, organization, and sound judgment. Key Responsibilities Maintain a consistent workload that meets the firm's billable-hour and timekeeping requirements, actively seeking opportunities to support attorneys and teams across offices when appropriate. Record time and work activities accurately each day in accordance with firm procedures and applicable outside-counsel requirements, ensuring the full workday is properly accounted for. Perform assigned work in accordance with applicable professional-conduct and ethical standards. Develop a working understanding of relevant federal, state, and local court rules and procedures. Monitor updates and communicate significant changes to the appropriate members of the legal team. Prepare routine correspondence, internal memoranda, forms, and other straightforward legal documents using firm templates, established formats, or other approved resources. Work product will generally be subject to attorney or senior-paralegal review. Conduct basic document reviews, including organizing materials chronologically or alphabetically and identifying or arranging documents according to established guidelines. Assist with the preparation and organization of materials for discovery, litigation and trial activities, administrative proceedings, transactions, and business closings, as assigned. Retrieve and organize information and documents from electronic legal resources and databases as needed. Provide additional administrative and legal support to the practice group based on workload and business needs. Required Background Education High school diploma or equivalent required. College-level education preferred. Paralegal training or certification is advantageous, including a paralegal certificate, National Association of Legal Assistants certification, or applicable state/specialty certification. Experience Previous experience as a case clerk, legal assistant, paralegal, or in another document-intensive legal role is preferred. Experience handling, organizing, reviewing, or maintaining legal documents is particularly valuable. Skills and Capabilities Familiarity with federal, state, and local legal rules and the ability to apply them to assigned work. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use online research tools and electronic resources to locate requested information. Comfort working with legal technology, databases, and document-management systems is preferred. Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work within demanding deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, colleagues, professional staff, clients, and outside vendors. Ability to manage competing priorities, adjust to changing demands, and remain composed in a high-pressure environment. Demonstrated discretion, patience, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to working with others. Willingness and ability to work additional hours or travel on short notice when business needs require it. Ability to read and review substantial volumes of written material and accurately enter information using a computer. Ability to understand and communicate detailed information verbally and in writing. Strong reasoning, language, organizational, and memory skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
