The Work You Will Do: Traffic Specialist III, District Six Traffic Operations This position will support the safe movement of motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic by ensuring that roadway signs regulate, warn, guide, and provide information about the roadway, serving as a dynamic component of roadway safety and an essential means of communication. Where You Will Work: 1000 NW 111th Ave. Annual Salary Range: $60,090.32 - $ 77,763.95 A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1976.00 will be added to the annual salary. Your Specific Responsibilities: Perform engineering review and data analysis, develop engineering reports and associated documents (work orders for signing, pavement marking changes, traffic regulations, signal operating plans, etc.). This includes performing field assessments, applying engineering principles, exercising judgment to identify operational and safety deficiencies, and developing appropriate remedial actions. Reviews guide sign Requests and wayfinding sign requests to ensure compliance with Rule 14-51. Includes participation in meetings and presentations, coordination with Department staff, affected external agencies, and customers, and issuing Traffic Service Requests as needed to implement remedial action. Review highway plans/engineering studies and evaluate and provide comments/recommendations on phase I, II, III, and 100% completion of construction plans, permit issues, and other engineering studies. Coordinate all comments from Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works and others on signal plans review with the designer. Conduct field inspections/reviews of signal installation in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation construction office. Participate in project field review for signing and markings. Participate in project final walk-through. Coordinate all inspection requests on behalf of the Traffic Operations Office for construction projects to ensure that construction aligns with the design intent as it relates to Traffic Operations. Assist in the reviews of plats and related documents to ensure proposed plans conform to access management permits for compliance with the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) State Highway System Connection Permit Rule Chapter 14-96 and State Highway System Access Management Classification System and Standards Rule Chapter 14-97. Track and assist in the review of all permits that are submitted to the District Traffic Operations Office. This includes reviewing access management permits for compliance with the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) State Highway System Connection Permit Rule Chapter 14-96 and State Highway System Access Management Classification System and Standards Rule Chapter 14-97. Assist in the maintenance of traffic features in the Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI) and traffic operations-related databases. This includes features related to traffic signals, speed limits, and other aspects, such as beginning and ending mileposts, support systems, and the number of connections. Participate in meetings with internal and external customers to represent Traffic Operations' interests. Includes providing useful commentary and review of work products. Includes correspondence and follow-up contact as needed. This position will make field reviews and inspections. Assist in the review of plan submittals generated by the Department and other entities. This includes ensuring plan submittals adhere to the Department's safety and design standards. Assist with various contract management duties, including the oversight and administration of various contracts relevant to the District Traffic Operations Office. This includes consultant services, construction, and maintenance contracts. The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Knowledge of traffic engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation standards, manuals, guidelines and practices Skills in: Skilled in the use of personal computers and a variety of engineering software Skilled in communication, including written, verbal and effective listening Ability to: Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, design standards, and manuals Ability to apply engineering concepts, practices and functions Ability to input and retrieve information from a computer database Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret engineering data Ability to work independently and make decisions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Other Job-Related Requirements: THE INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK EXTRA HOURS. Minimum Qualifications: Three (3) years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience. Higher education in the field of engineering, computer science, engineering technology or similar relevant area of study may substitute on a year per year basis for the required experience. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and has an Engineer in Trainee (EIT) certification in either Florida or another State; or an active International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs and Pavement Markings certification.
