General Surgery Categorical PGY-3 Resident

The General Surgery Residency Program at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. has an open ACGME-accredited Categorical PGY-3 training position beginning July 1, 2026. Please see the specific requirements and instructions for applying below. Note: It is the policy of The George Washington University to sponsor J-1 Visas only.

Prerequisites (no exceptions):

Successful completion in good standing of two (2) years of U.S. clinical training in an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency training program (or currently enrolled as a PGY-2 for the 2025-26 academic year). Must have graduated from an Accredited Medical School and/or International Medical Graduates must have a valid ECFMG certificate (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)

Requirements:

• Curriculum Vitae
• Brief Personal Statement
• Medical School Diploma and Transcript
• Dean's Letter
• USMLE Parts I, II, III scores (must be first pass) or COMLEX I, II-CE, III scores
• ABSITE scores and reports for ALL years completed
• Three (3) current Letters of Recommendation, including one from the current Program Director
• Rotation schedule with Competency-Based Evaluations for ALL completed rotations
• Current year semi-annual Evaluation
• Current ACGME "General Surgery Defined Category and Minimum" and "General Surgery Year 2 Minimum" case log reports
• ACLS and ATLS certifications (does not need to be active)
• FLS and FES Certifications (if available)
• Copy of ECFMG (if applicable)
• Copy of current DS2019 for J-1 Visa holders (if applicable)
