FLSA Status Exempt Hours: As determined by supervisor Job Type Full-time Rank Post Doc Unionized Position Code UA The Physics department at Syracuse University is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral researcher who will work in Experimental High Energy Physics on the LHCb experiment and its Upgrades. Presently, we are involved in several interesting projects related to the LHCb Upgrade II, and in the CERN DRD3 R&D collaboration, and the RDC9 R&D effort within the DPF - CPAD task force. There are several cutting‑edge projects related to the sensor and electronics infrastructure needed for a novel tracking detector, the Upstream Pixel (UP) detector for Upgrade II, based on the HV‑MAP technology. We are working towards several key system‑level R&D efforts, such as the development and validation of the full readout architecture stream, optimization of powering schemes and data transmission, and investigation of heterogeneous computing involving FPGAs and GPUs. In addition, we are pursuing several exciting physics analysis projects, ranging from conventional and exotic spectroscopy to precision Standard Model tests and searches for new physics, exploiting the unique opportunities offered by b‑quark decays. Job Specific Qualifications Experience in instrumentation, in particular solid‑state detectors or electronics, and/or physics analysis. Responsibilities Candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of a component of the instrumentation projects being implemented at Syracuse University. The work will include detector optimization studies, laboratory measurements, and test‑beam studies. During these activities, the candidate will have the opportunity to mentor a small team of graduate and undergraduate students. While the primary focus is on hardware, opportunities for physics analysis with LHCb RUN 3 data in collaboration with one of the Syracuse faculty are available. #J-18808-Ljbffr Syracuse University
