Nurse Practitioner

Position Overview Working under the supervision of the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) assumes total nursing care of specific patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and consultations. The NP may work in an inpatient or outpatient setting, conduct physicals, order tests, serve as a patient’s primary healthcare provider, and prescribe medications if holding appropriate credentials. Key Responsibilities Perform initial history and physical examination, and conduct intermittent medical assessments as warranted. Recommend or order medical interventions such as laboratory work, diagnostic imaging studies (X‑rays, CT scan, MRI, etc.), medications, and detoxification protocols. Document medical records promptly, including admission assessments, physical examinations, recommendations, and discharge summaries. Assess physiological, behavioral, and psychosocial health status to develop initial plans of care. Assist in developing treatment and nursing care plans; deliver nursing care aligned with these plans. Review health history, provide clinical recommendations, interact with interdisciplinary team members, and promote high standards of care. Verify physician orders, recognize deviations in diagnostic studies, identify patient problems, schedule psychiatric evaluations, and collaborate with treatment teams to determine discharge plans. Develop outcome statements, measurement criteria for goals, and communicate goals to patients, families, and relevant stakeholders. Revise or update plans of care based on patient progress; demonstrate CPI knowledge and establish effective working relationships. Lead and engage staff with a clear vision and mission, fostering organizational success. Qualifications State license as a Registered Nurse Practitioner. Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., FNP‑BC, FNP‑C, AGNP, AGPCNP‑BC). Active DEA (and CDS if required by state) license; DEA and CDS requirements aligned with facility address conditions. Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Nursing preferred. Current CPR or BLS certification preferred. 5‑7 years of nursing experience, with five years in behavioral health preferred. Knowledge of medical diagnoses, detoxification procedures, substance abuse disorders, co‑occurring disorders, DSM criteria, and terminology. Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to speak clearly and persuasively. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to safely prescribe medications and administer them as needed. Competency in performing CLIA‑waived testing. Proficiency in screening and assessing for suicide ideation and aggression. Critical thinking skills and ability to formulate accurate medical assessments. Understanding of ASAM criteria and levels of care. Leadership skills to motivate and develop teams; strong communication, interpersonal, planning, and professional technical capability. Work Environment This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely using computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level is usually moderate. Physical Demands Regularly required to talk or hear. Frequently required to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to administer at least 2 minutes of quality CPR is required.
