Job Title: Cement Laborer

Job Description

This role supports a concrete processing facility by moving materials, operating equipment, and assisting with plant operations. You will help ensure consistent product quality by collecting samples and performing basic tests, support maintenance and troubleshooting activities, and monitor plant equipment from the control room. You will also follow daily checklists and safety procedures to keep the plant running efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

• Move concrete materials throughout the facility in a safe and efficient manner.
• Operate equipment to process concrete materials according to production requirements.
• Collect material samples and perform basic quality tests to ensure products meet specifications.
• Assist with plant maintenance activities, including basic machine troubleshooting and minor repairs as directed.
• Monitor plant equipment from the control room and respond promptly to alarms or issues.
• Follow a daily checklist to ensure all assigned tasks are completed accurately and on time.
• Unload rail cars safely and efficiently while following all procedures.
• Use various hand and power tools to support maintenance and operational tasks.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Work at heights as needed to complete operational or maintenance tasks.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and report issues.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, both inside the plant and in outdoor workspaces.

Essential Skills

• Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical systems.
• Ability to use various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
• Comfort working at heights as needed for plant operations and maintenance.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules, including day, afternoon, or night shifts.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including daily checklists and safety procedures.
• Capability to perform physical labor, including moving materials and working both indoors and outdoors.
• Strong attention to safety and adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders is a plus.
• Previous forklift operation experience is beneficial.
• Experience working in a control room environment is an advantage.
• Previous experience with machine troubleshooting is helpful.
• Experience unloading rail cars or working with bulk material handling is a plus.
• Prior quality inspection or quality testing experience is beneficial but not required.
• Experience working in a cement, concrete, or similar industrial environment is an asset.

Work Environment

The role is based in an older industrial facility where work takes place both indoors and outdoors, including in-between buildings. Candidates should expect a rotating or flexible schedule and will likely train on the day shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) before moving to an afternoon (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) or night shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). The environment involves working around heavy equipment, concrete materials, and plant machinery, with tasks that require physical activity, working at heights, and exposure to varying weather conditions when working outside. Uniforms and personal protective equipment are provided and are expected to be worn in accordance with safety policies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middlebranch, OH.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
