HVAC and Facilities Maintenance Technician - Robinson Plant Location: Robinson, Illinois (US) Position Type: Hourly Sign-On Bonus: $4,000 The Hershey Company Robinson plant is a non-union plant producing products such as PayDay, Heath, Skor, Milk Duds, Whoppers, Reese's Pieces, Zero, Brookside Fruit Crunchy, and Scharffen Berger in a high-speed complex environment. Pay Starting pay rate $30.36 - $32.57 per hour, based on written mechanical skills assessment score. $1.00 additional shift premium for working 2nd or 3rd shift hours. OT potential! Shifts Weekends/Nights 2nd Shift: Thursday 10:00 pm–6:00 am; Friday & Saturday 6:00 pm–6:00 am; Sunday 6:00 pm–2:00 am. 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday 2:00 pm–10:00 pm. Summary Maintenance Support Technicians are skilled in electrical, mechanical, or utility maintenance. This role primarily maintains and optimizes the plant HVAC and building and grounds while working off‑shift. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate and maintain plant equipment: steam boilers, water boilers, cooling towers, heating and cooling units, refrigeration units, compressed air systems, power distribution, raw material storage, warehouse equipment, fire protection, utilities, and waste water treatment. Perform preventive maintenance (PM01, PM02, TECO PM03). Manage equipment, parts, and supplies inventories; check stock levels; anticipate needs; place orders; verify receipts. Apply welding techniques (silver soldering, soft soldering, TIG, MIG, arc, brazing). Perform plumbing/piping tasks (flaring, compression, pro‑press). Handle water treatment (chemical types, testing procedures, alarm knowledge). Maintain a safe environment through continuous housekeeping, reporting unsafe conditions, and demonstrating safe operational methods. Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices. Plan electrical wiring layouts, install control and distribution apparatus, connect wiring to circuit breakers and other components, and verify circuit connections for safety. Operate machinery and mechanical equipment; complete preventive maintenance; monitor compliance; and minimize downtime by informing production workers of routine maintenance. Minimum Qualifications Refrigeration Universal license required. EPA 608 Certification required within the first 6 months. Minimum age 18. Flexibility to work all shift types (8, 10, or 12‑hour shifts). Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Authorization to work in the United States. Pass a written NOCTI exam in the respective discipline. Basic PC and computer skills. Preferred Qualifications Food manufacturing experience. EPA 608 Certification preferred. Experience with SQF practices. Experience with TPM. Experience with Autonomous Maintenance (AM). Experience with Continuous Improvement methodology. 1–2 years hands‑on HVAC work in manufacturing systems.
