Accounting Supervisor

Role Description The Accounting Supervisor is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Sarasota, FL, responsible for providing accountability for the financial transactions of the District efficiently and expeditiously within appropriate state and local regulations. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting, Finance, or other business‑related field. Minimum of five (5) years experience in accounting, preferably governmental accounting with an emphasis on School Boards. Certified Public Accountant preferred. Supervisory experience is essential. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of governmental accounting standards, Florida school law, and State of Education regulations. Management skills in supervising areas of budgeting, accounting, and auditing. Group dynamics and communication skills for both oral and written presentations. Ability to plan, analyze, organize, and prioritize activities. Possess modern technology skills. Reports To Director, Accounting Accountants Performance Responsibilities Supervise all aspects of accounts payable and school internal accounts areas within the accounting office. Assist Director with all accounting functions. Assist with the implementation of new GASB pronouncements. Assist with the monitoring of cash flow and investment activities. Coordinate school internal accounts audit for the District and any internal audit inquiries. Assist auditors in audits of the District. Assist outside agencies/Charter Schools with compliance of Department of Education requirements. Work with enterprise resource software vendor on business system review and enhancements and ensure timeliness and accuracy of computerized accounting systems. Oversee the preparation and submission of the Program Cost Report. Review and approve bank account reconciliations. Assist with the preparation of the Annual Financial Report (AFR) and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Assist departments and schools on financial matters. Interact with parents, outside agencies, business and community to enhance understanding of District initiatives priorities and to elicit support and assistance and keep the Director informed of potential problems or unusual events. Disseminate information and current research to appropriate personnel. Keep well informed about current trends and best practices in areas of responsibility.
